C63: Flashy? Not flashy? Does it matter to you?

One of my considerations in getting a C63 was that I needed a car that wasn't too flashy, primarily because I can't afford to make employees and clients overly jealous. I figured that Porsche would be much flashier, BMW a bit less flashy, and Audi considerably more low key.

Was the flashiness of the car a factor in your decision to get it? Do you think the car is flashy (or not)?

In these first two weeks of ownership, to my surprise, I've already noticed some people looking at the car in parking lots. Maybe the V8 sound and quad exhausts have blown my cover?

Then perhaps a V6 Accord or Camry would have been a more conservative choice? Just saying.....if you are concerned with what people may think.

I don't notice too many people looking at my C63. Most people probably think it is a C300/350.

High performance (ie, fun to drive) was a mandatory requirement, so that reduced the options considerably.

I am in the same situation. We want to enjoy our hard earned money, but sometimes it could ruin relations with clients and employees. BTW, if you drive any current body style MB, prepare to be gawked at. Even more so with the AMG badge. Enjoy her. You sir, are very considerate of others, therefore you are exalted with my faction reputation. Up!

Get a C63 and debadge it. Normal people will think its a C300 and car enthusiasts will know that its a monster.

Ive always been of the school of thought that unless its "in your face", a relationship with a client or employee should never change because of your choice of automobile. If it does, better off without the latter.
That aside, the 'flash' factor is a small bit of my car decisions, usually 10% factor but thats it. I remember driving once in a friends Lambo Murcielago, and feeling like the biggest douche in the world, like i actually felt uncomfortable and cheesy being in it... i guess thats just me, i hate attention, and cant stand people who demand it.
I think the C63 is a good blend of flash, sportyness, elegance, etc... its still the type of car when i go down to the parkade each morning and think "damn what a good looking car"... i mean, who wants to go down to a boring Audi A4 which doesnt look any more appealing that an accord... oh dear, flame suit on.

I'm getting rid of my 2009 Audi S5 which has some 20"s on it.
I feel a little too flashy with it..

Funny... putting 20"s on a car and then not wanting everyone to look at me.

Not sure the C63 is going to be any less flashy... Going 19" instead of 20".
All blacked out it will be a stealth bomber.

90% of people just think it's a nice C class, the ones who know it is a C63 - know what a C63 is.

Just don't put these wheels on it:

That was pretty much my reasoning.

If someone doesn't know their cars, they'll hopefully just think it's a C-class with nice wheels and, after all, poor me had to get the entry-level MB (downgrade from my previous E-class, so times must be tough!).

If someone really knows their cars (probably just about none of my clients or employees), they'll appreciate what the car is, which is fine with me.

I have a relatively small number of key clients and employees, so can't afford to neglect any of them. But I realize that this is a good problem to have, so I'm not really complaining, just exploring the issue with others who have the same car.

Had the same thought, but (a) the car is leased, so the badge would eventually need to go back on, and (b) I love seeing the "63" next to "C" as a reminder of what's under the hood.

I was joking with my wife that I should put C230 on there and really confuse people!

I feel the same way and actually traded my 996 Turbo for the C63 as I consider it to be much less flashy and more safe.

I don't get the same "badass car" vibe when I walk out to the garage but the drive is just as entertaining, albiet less sporty but more "this is insane" overall. It's honesty the the idea of having a 911 or a M3 and their culture that I miss the most - strange but you have that feeling like your in some kind of club with a huge following and lots of unformation which can be cool. All of that being said, neither are as fun to drive around town as the power in the C63 is just so accessible.

The car looks like pretty much any other C-Class - it's not reinventing the wheel so to speak. I have found my past cars such as my fun but cheap 2008 Pontiac G8 GT with some wheels got a lot more interest than my C63. For me I don't want to draw a bunch of attention to the car - I'd rather fly below the radar. I've had people ask me what kind of exhaust I put on it, but other than that nothing much from others out in the public. I think most people have no clue what the car is because it's a rare. I've never seen another one while driving around since it's been released in the US. However I have found if I get on it, people will look. I'm not sure why though... hmm.

There is someone in Taiwan that actually put a C350 badge. I get what you say about the employees and not so much with the clients. Your clients will retain you based on who and what you can provide them. Employees, well, they may think you make too much and them too little.

I'm not in the flashy side of things as I always prefered "sleeper" cars. The C63 is a sooped-up C... If you get a thumbs up it's probably by someone who knows cars. It kinda gets anoying though that at least a couple of time a day at a trafic light someone is trying to race me! I usually let them win!

I have not had anyone try to race me in the C63 yet. In some of my other cars I have though. I usually keep my foot on the clutch and give it a few deep revs or shift into neutral and do the same thing. Then when the light turns green I slowly pull away while the guy in usually an STI or Honda VTEC does a 5k RPM clutch dump and really whoops my behind.

I know my car is fast - I don't need to prove it stop light to stop light.

Exactly my train of thoughts... plus I'm not 16 anymore, or 20, or 25, or 30 for that matter... damn time flies!

This car is the uber stealth sedan. AMG invented the catagory many years ago. 99.9% of Americans think it's just a C class Benz and that's just fine by me. I'm pulling the rear badges to confuse the other .1% that know what it is. (Always fun to jump on an unsuspecting M3, Porsche Boxster or Mopar 300SRT). The AMG sedans have alway been my favorite because only people that understand the history of AMG and really want these cars will buy them. If I want flash, I'll drive the 996TT. Yah it's faster, but it demands your undivided attention at all times. With the C63 if you want to kick back and chill, it's no problem. Wanna go fast, push the loud pedal down and it's a done deal. Twisties, very forgiving chasis with enough understeer to keep you out of trouble. Stop light bingo, well you'll win but tires get shredded pretty fast. Not fast enough for you, a quick flash, a few exhaust mods and you're golden.

There is a solution. I don't recomend it, but one of the "other MBZ boards" is populated with members who are addicted to slamming the car to the ground, putting 20"+ wheels on it, 8 zillion watt sound systems, cover every surface possible in faux carbon fiber, feston it with LED's were every possible, and show up at hot import night shows at the local IN and OUT.
You also need to get a 20lbs gold chain necklace with a humongous BMZ star hanging off it.

Using a car to get laid..... Laughable and I feel sorry for you.

I am in sales for a living and I have noticed over the years that driving "flashy" cars is actually a good thing. Clients see their sales rep driving a nice car then they feel that person is successful and probably knows what they are doing. Not to mention the countless conversations I have had about cars with clients. Its a great ice breaker when the discussion starts off with "Nice car I just picked up a E63 myself. How do you like it?" <- That just happened last month haha

As long as you don't come off as a cocky know it all ***** then there shouldn't be a problem.

I actually bought my car a Certified preowned car from the dealer and the previous owner had it debadged. The dealership gave me the option of having all the badges replaced. I like the look of the AMG and C63 badges so I had them placed back on. I think the car is stealth enough to most people that the badges do not look "too bling". I don't find much attention from driving the C63. The attention will come from other enthusiasts and kids, but never from women. I always saw myself being in an E55 (E63) AMG, as I 've always loved the concept of the classy stealth sedans with super car power. However, in reality, the C63 is so much more nimble than the overweight E class AMG. Overall, a funner car. As I stated in another thread, the C63 is the perfect Daily Driver for the enthusiast driver with a small family. That is, if you do not mind paying a premium for worn tires, oil, and gas. It's all worth it for the smile the car gives you when you leave your office at the end of the workday.

I think it really depends on what you do for a living. I'm in engineering and all of my clients are engineers, very few of which can afford to drive a MB. And those who surely can afford them still drive Volvos, Fords, etc.
