C63 AMG with 95,000km, how much engine life left?
Hi everyone, I'm looking at a 2009 C63 AMG with 95,000km for about $40k with all options except for LSD.
I'm happy with the car's exterior and interior, no rattles and the engine is amazing but the last owner put so much mileage on it in 3 years that makes me wonder if I should go on with the purchase.
For an engine like the AMG's, basically I want to know if it's built to last like 200,000km =S. The price is very tempting but the risk of something wrong seems to amount to a catastrophic repair... if I spend $9k more I can get a 09 with 18,000km.
Should I go for it?

you're going to have a difficult time finding input on this, as there are very few people with that type of mileage. The general consensus is if it was maintained well, the engine should last a long time.
If the difference is $9k, something pretty terrible has to happen in order for you to have $9k of engine repairs.

I would suggest looking at some of the higher mileage W211 E63s (2007 to 2009) for an answer to your question since they are running the same engine. If I'm not mistaken, there are some pretty high mileage ones out there right now and it might give you somewhat of an indication what to expect as far as the engine is concerned...

Wait, find the right car with less milage and spend a few more bucks. 40K is not enough of a discount for that kind of milage.

My car has 125'000 km.
To be honest I can feel it starting to fall apart...
My DVD player does not work. I can hear some strange noises from the front (suspension). Also my trunk auto-close function does not work properly.
I'm really disappointed about the quality of the car. I would expect much more reliability from an AMG.
Over the last 3 years I had my rear suspension repaired/replaced twice (!), my K1 clutch replaced and other minor stuff repaired.

Mercedes C63 amg, Bmw X5,
Mine has 69.000km and it feels as good as it felt when I got it whith 30.000km. Now I also drive the car quite hard from time to time and I think the engine is it pretty much perfect shape. Never heard any ticking noise or anything like some members have said they have experienced. Also oil consumption seems to be getting even better then with 30.000km I used to put 1 qz every 3000km now I put every 6000 or 7000 km. I think the engine if maintained properlyis indestructible( not reallly but almost=).

In my experience as soon as I mounted aftermarket suspension pieces my cars have started to rattle and have that 'falling apart' feeling.
the k1 clutch sounds aftermarket... Did your stock one fail first?

Do you have coilovers with your H&R springs or did you mount them on the stock struts? unmatched springs/struts is one of the fastest ways to having to replace suspension components.

Yes, my springs are mounted on stock struts but the suspension was replaced under warranty before I got the the H&Rs.

The last thing i I would worry about is the engine, name another part... My experience with MB engines is that they will last a good amount of time, you'll want to change the car once or twice before it happens

It's all the electronics that go bad and drive you nuts cuz they are more of an anoyance than anything else but cost a fortune to fix. I blew through MAF's and the crank sensors on my C43 faster than plugs (least these were any easy fix). My C55 would puke it's head unit nav/sound system every 20K but I managed to keep it under warranty the entire time.

Just a thought but think about how long you are going to keep the car and how many more miles you plan to put on it. Special models, like the C63, take a beating in the market with high miles...I speak from experience coming from a high mileage 996 Turbo. If you are going to get and and drive it to the ground, enjoy it and you'll likely be fine as far as the engine goes. If you are looking to trade in a couple of years, give a lower mileage car more thought.

thanks for all the response thus far,
I plan on keeping it for a long time and I will not put that much miles on it per year, maybe 10,000km per year so I thought in 2 years or so the total mileage accumulated will be more in line with the average 2009.
However, as some members pointed out, issues start to show at the 100k mark so I will wait for a more suitable c63. I love the car and want to enjoy it for many years, so I don't mind waiting. Thanks guy!

I would not buy this car with that much mileage for that price, I would wait for the 2012 models to come out (stateside) and then look for a pre 2012 model, the pre face lift models should fall several thousand dollars, have patience and it will pay off in the long run.
