PSS 275 on C63 2010

So i think i am going with the PSS 275 35 18.

Some of you guys say it fits with no problems, others say it rubs.

What is the deal with these tires and will 275s be okay?

the wheels are stock 18's
thanks

I just put 255 PSS on my rear and it looks right. PSS have wider section width already, and 275 might look funny

Looks funny if you aren't dropped/coiled. The fatness isn't as noticeable if you look at stang's sig.

I know this is a silly question, but is the wheel width of the stock 18's meant to have 275 width rubber fitted on them?

What is tire width limit that will safely fit the stock 18" rear wheels?

No idea what the stock wheel width is, but for a 275 tire a 9.5 x 18 would be perfect.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, I don't know the exact stock 18" wheel width is either.

There was another thread on this. They fit fine and ride really well, they just don't look great (big fat sidewalls). I have run this setup for a little over 2500kms of mixed driving and haven't had any rubbing or problems with the tires.

275's fit fine. Don't worry about it not looking right. You live in brooklyn, the streets are riddled with craters. You'll be happy with the slight increase in sidewalls.

They will fit, but a 265 is the recommended size for a 9 inch wheel. Personally, I wouldn't go to 275's, unless I run a 9.5 inch wheel. It also depends on the tire manufacturer, as some tires have square shoulders like the Michelin's and might rub.

I'm currently running 265 Pilot SS on my c63 with the stock 18's and they are quite a bit larger/wider than the stock PZeros. I ran 275 Dunlop Direzza Z1 Starspecs last summer and i'd say that the 265 PSS and 275 Dunlops width are about the same. The PSS on 275's will definitely look funny with the massive sidewall. Grip off the line might be great but the handling will suffer and the car might not feel as "planted" as before. You will also most likely rub if you decide to lower the car because Michelin 275's on this particular tire is a lot larger than other 275's.

can someone post a picture of what "funny" looks like!
I would think with wider tires you get better handling and wider wheels would look better...

Regarding the what you said with the car feeling worse, do you really feel it when driving?

Thanks

Cant say I agree with the handling suffering due to going to 275s. Yes there will be some sidewall flex but I have only noticed it under throttle at high speeds and even then it was minimal.

Around town you don't notice it and along with the 18 inch wheels it chews up bad roads no problem. The greatest thing about 275s is that you basically have to floor it to get wheelspin - it always seems to hook up under part throttle now even when it's wet. If I could go to 285 or 295 I would!

PS2s fit fine at 275, no rubbing, has anyone gone from that to PSS at 275 to give a comparison there?

I also put the 275 PSS on back and don't think it looks funny. I checked the dimensions of the tires before installing them 2 weeks ago. The Conti 5P is 25.0" OD, and the 275 PSS is 25.55" OD. It's only half an inch larger in diameter. Considering my 5Ps were completely slick, I did notice a difference, but it didn't look odd. Maybe the paint color makes a difference. I've got a dark color, steel grey.

IF the PSS at 275 40 are the same size as the PS2 they will look just fine.

Bumping an old thread here, but I'm thinking about going 275/35/18 PSS the next go around. I'm currently running a 265/35/18 Continental ExtremeContact DW. I'm looking on TireRack and I'm not sure what's the difference between tread width and section width? It looks like the PSS will be .2" wider based on section width, but a full inch wider based on tread width?

The section width is the total width of the tire from its inner sidewall to its outer sidewall at its widest point when installed on its industry standard rim (9.5" for PSS 275/35/18).

The tread width is the distance from the inner edge to the outer edge of the tire tread of a new tire that is intended to ride in contact with the road surface. If the tread wraps around the sidewall of the tire it will not all be in contact with the road and will make it difficult to measure the tread width directly from the tire tread surface.

Your measurement differences of .2" wider section and 1" wider tread look correct to me from tire rack.

Notice a 265/35/18 PSS has a wider tread width than the 275 and a 275/35/18 Conti DW has a very wide Section width and a wider tread width than the 275 PSS. A 275 Conti DW might rub because of the wider section width?

I just installed 275 18 PSS for the rears and let me tell you...the difference is night and day. Rarely does it break traction in Sport ESP on dry conditions. And I stomp. I'm i love with them. Can't wait to replace fronts!

The Michelins PSS 275/35ZR18 has a section width of 10.9". They run on the medium width side. There should be lots of room left for them. The conti DW's i have has a section width of 11.2".

Which DW's are you running? 275/35/18? I was thinking about those as well. Stock rims and height?
