help needed removing charcol filter in E63
Hey guys,
I have a 2010 w212 amg E63. No one in my thread seems to respond.
I want to replace my air filters with either K and N or BMC filters. Please advise on the improvements from doing so.
Most importantly can anyone give me directions on the charcol filter delete. I cant figure out what to do. Any instructions with photos would be greatly appreciated.

loosen the screws around the airbox top cover and the clamps around the rubber hose, you will be able to see the charcoal filter under the top cover.

I had the BMC filters and threw them out, they set off my CEL four times and the dealer had the car on the star diagnostics and the car was always running to lean, this would set off the CEL, I also had in fifth gear acceleration a hesititation and stuttering, since I have removed them everything is back to normal.

According to many, removing the charcoals will not give you any noticeable HP difference, at least in the seat of your pants. The gains if any, are not worth it imo, others may "think" that there are gains, but in a car that produces 450 to 500hp, you will not notice. Its up to you, but I personally have tried along with many members who I know personally and we are of the same opinion. Give it a shot if you want to satisfy your curosity and you can be the judge.

I believe aftermarket filters and charcoal delete improves mpg. This has been my experience.
Edit: I forgot to add that I also was using ROW box tops in addition to filters and charcal delete when I experienced the bump in mpg.

hello everyone,
Sorry to bring an old thread back but i have a question.
This removing charcoal filter affect smog in anyways? I heard that this is not an actual filter. it's a HC (hydrocarbon) absorption pad that absorb gasoline vapor hence cleaner environment. do you guys know if this is written somewhere? Without HC absorption pad (charcoal filter) will my car pass Smg? just curious. Thank you in advance!!!
