Dispute with Groundhog
It is Groundhog Day in the the US and Canada and I am finally getting around to posting some pictures of a run-in I had with a groundhog in the vicinity of Summit Point, West Virginia.
I was traveling along setting up a pass on a Mini Cooper when I saw groundhogs ahead crossing on the left. Driving on the right, thought I would clear them--until the Mini nipped one and sent it spinning over in front of my car. Heard and felt a solid thump and assumed that I merely run over the hog. Unbeknownst to me, I had picked up a passenger who rode with me for another 4 miles until I called it a day.
After extraction, some of the locals were quite pleased at the prospect of dinner.
If you look closely at the front (star) grill you can see that the front bumper was dislodged by the impact and the lower grill was destroyed (it's plastic). The radiator and air baffles also needed to be replaced.
Warning-traveling with a groundhog in this fashion at high speeds will cause overheating.

Kinda. Groundhogs are big and gophers are little. A big groundhog is about 24 times heavier (up to 13 pounds) than the little gopher. They look similar, however, the groundhog has a short neck, legs, and tail.
The groundhog (also known as a "woodchuck") is a marmot - essentially, a giant North American ground squirrel. The gopher is, like the groundhog, a burrowing member of the rodent family but its closest living relatives are kangaroo rats and pocket mice.
The groundhog hibernates and the gopher does not. The groundhog is famous for predicting when winter-like weather will end on Groundhog Day (Feb 2) in the US and Canada. The groundhog enjoys sports cars and road racing, but has a tendency to get too close to the action from time to time.
