AMG Driving Academy
Since the 2012 AMG Driving Academy registration opened Friday, I wanted to know those who have done any of the levels thought of the experience.
I am going to be using the complimentary AMG Purchase Reward for the Basic Level 1 day event, and when I called, they said that they would need to call me back to finish the registration. They said their system was being updated. Anyway, I am super excited and wanted to get an idea of what to expect.
How much on track versus classroom time, the cars they drove, and what they thought of the instructors.
Did you guys learn anything or is it just stomping on the gas and doing things you wouldn't normally be able to do?
Thanks in advance

The driving academy is a very well organized event.. U will enjoy it in all safety, no matter if it's ur first track experience or not. For example, no passing is allowed during the event.
The event will have some classroom theory, and lapping afterwards. It's not about who's going faster on the track, it's about learning the right technique in acceleration, braking, cornering & such. Enjoy!!

This is for your 2012 Im guessing, that's great, thought this was only for the '11s and a limited time offer.

I am shooting for limerock but I thought it was a little strange as well. I would think some dates in the summer would be nice and probably a little safer as far as the weather goes.

I'm planning on signing up tomorrow. The Fontana track is a lot closer, but it seems people recommend Laguna Seca. Salinas is a long (but fun) trip from Orange County. Which track are you signing up for?

Also can someone confirm you have to be 21 to participate?

Because they don't want kids wrecking the cars. At least if you're 21, you're 'mature' enough to understand and follow the rules they have set into place.

I've been to a other HPDEs since I was 18....havent wrecked any cars. Its not like I mess around.
The annoying thing is I turn 21 at the end of this year and by the time the next academy comes around, it would be more than a year since I've bought the car so I wont be eligible for the free day
I was really looking forward to this

Doesn't hurt to call and see if they will make an exception, or allow early registration for next year. The rule says you are eligible for the free event if you're over 21, doesn't say your ineligble if you're not. I would think AMG wants to keep its customers happy.

Yes, they say Fontana won't even compare to SECA. so even with the long drive, I'm shooting for Sep 23. it will be just another awesome drive at the 101 with my c63. hope to see forum members.

I signed up for Texas Motor Speedway. It's the easiest and least expensive to get to for me. The time is right as well. Does anyone know if this track is a worthwhile track? I suppose the experience will be good no matter where it is....

Me too. Called them on Friday and they took down the basic info and said they had to call back to finish the registration. They said 4-6 days? I wonder if this is only for those who are redeeming the Purchase Reward?
