Came in this week, actually early. Ordered the car in December, January build, was in my hands Feb 14th.

etc etc - basically everything but all the stuff for old people - lane tracking, tele-aid, parktronic, rearview

A few initial thoughts and comparison info for those of you with 08-11's thinking of upgrading:

- Transmission shifts way quicker versus the 09 in every mode.

- Maybe it's because its brand new, but the transmission feels like its still finding itself - IE shifts into 2nd/3rd in almost no time (uncomfortably, like too early), shift points are still being calculated it feels like as its being broken in.

- Gas pedal feels MUCH more touchy - way more sensitive than the 09, just a bit of gas and it starts to hum. Same with the downshifts...seems to want to go with less effort than the 09.

- Ride is much smoother than the P30 - feels like the car is gliding in comparison to the P30.

- Telematics are 10x improved...I remember when I got the 09 I was stoked - will never run out of music! Sirius, XM, CD's, and Ipod hookup. This has the same, plus bluetooth audio, and an aux input...the BT audio is awesome. The Navi is much quicker, less "loading" all over the system, the entire interface just feels smoother and quicker. You can tell the software is in it's later stages of maturity versus the 09. MIP came standard for me.

- I got the S32 launch package instead of the multimedia package...dealer swore up and down the only difference was the rearview camera (which I didnt want). Car came in with sirius, traffic, bluetooth audio, weather/telematics, harmon/kardon, etc...dont see anything Im missing besides rearview. So for those of you finalizing your order, can save a few bucks by getting S32 instead of MM if not interested in the rearview.

- Seats are the same, they feel great. I waffled on the black/red thinking it would be too miami vice, but honestly it looks great in person with the red calipers and tails, it all goes together well. was worried a bit but happy with the outcome.

- Door handles on the exterior have chrome just on the top of the handles. Guessing this is something specific for light/white cars. Did not order anything there specific, it does not have the chrome door handle accessory on it, just built in like that.

- Finish of the interior is much nicer...the aluminum buttons and aluminum on the steering wheel all look great.

Nice combination. Same configuration as mine except I went for the Diamond White.

Don't get too comfortable because remember now, you are only borrowing it. It's a lease...

Beautiful, the red and black seats do look nice. Is "AMG" illuminated on the door sills?

 

Rear camera is very helpful for those sudden surprises. Like a midg... i mean little person crossing!

IzzyAMG - what did you do to get your ipod/iphone to play video? Assuming it plays audio as well through the speakers?

yes audio goes through speakers.

Video works even though I have back up camera, manual says it cant. Obviously when moving its blank. But at least I can now watch movies from my apple products while waiting for my wife shopping. lol!

Few more thoughts as Im approaching break-in:

- In S and S+ mode, it QUICKLY shifts into 2nd and even quicker into 3rd. 1st goes up to 2500 maybe, then 2nd and 3rd are nearly immediate. Doesnt feel right. Guessing this is due to break-in & the tranny figuring it out so I'll continue to ride it out.

- The '12 doesnt seem as grunty in terms of sound as the '09...maybe the transmission makes it "smoother" but the throttle blips were much more aggressive in the '09. Again, maybe a breakin thing.

- Keyless go is a must on these cars - the touch access getting in and out is ridiculously useful. Must add.

- Navi - I am having a hard time figuring the settings out. I want my navi to look like this

How do you enable that?

 

If you are breaking it in soft this is just the ECU adapting and trying to get the best gas mileage. The ECU will adapt those shift points the more aggressive you are with it.

I wanted the keyless in my '10. I will get it for sure in my next ride.

Not sure on the Navi. Looks cool though. Look for some type of "3D" option I would guess in the settings.

What is this S and S+ mode you speak of? I have only ever heard of M mode in the car.

Stop letting the car shift for you and then you don't have to worry about when it shifts to 2nd My car has not been in anything other than M mode or C mode a couple of times in snow storms.

 

My Sat Nav looks like that. The dealer set it for me. it's called 3d View.

Go to "Map Settings" and make sure that "City (3D)" option is enabled (when enabled there's a little "checkmark" inside that "checkbox" next to this option). Also, make sure that your "Map Orientation" is set to "Bird's-eye view" or "3D Map". This feature (3D buildings) doesn't work everywhere, though (not every city has the 3D models for it).

 

Got it. It's all set up that way, maybe I just havent been in a city yet that has been modeled. Thanks for the info.

 

If you want to just check if that feature is properly "enabled" - point your map (in your navigation system) to some large city like LA or NYC (particularly the Manhattan area of NYC) and zoom in until the 3D models appear.
