anyone else got it to work? I cant do anything yet though since I have POS phone (free android phone) and it cant send internet to my car

How did you do it??? Post step by step...I have an old BBerry I can use to connect with (read that iPhones won't work).

Yeah I dont understand but iPhones arent supposed to work. only some andriods and bb will work.

to enable it, you have to go into the engineering menu, by pressing:

hang up(on the dash, the steering wheel doesnt work)+1+# for about 5 seconds

once in there, find SW settings and find HU parameters. go through the menu, enable "browser" and "mb services". turn off the car and I didnt get it right away (maybe have to ignition off or lock door or something?) but in the morning I got the command online and favorites tab under the globe.

Note: In order to scroll down the menus, make sure you pull or push the command knob up or down, dont just turn it. most sub menus has many pages, but you have to actually push or pull or command knob.

theres also many interesting settings and menus you can mess about although I dont recommend it! you dont want to mess anything up. Be extremely careful to change only the two settings I said. thats all you need for internet connectivity.

and ofcourse you are doing this at your own risk and I am not responsible if you mess up.

Apparently iphone uses a different type of tether technology than BB, initial design of the system was based around bb technology.

Just did it. Dont have the browser option yet. Man there are a lot of extra options in here....trailing nav, split screen, etc...wonder what happens when you flick some of these switches?

Split screen doesn't work obviously bc u need hardware. Nav idk

Its my understanding that this feature is new for MY2012, and isnt officially rolled out in the US until mbrace2 is released for 2013. However, if I recall correctly other countries have this feature as is today, which hopefully means the US 2012's do also and its just a software unlock like OP describes.

i dont think this is possible on your 2008...only command version 4.5 has both the command online apps and browesr, although I think you can get browser on later 2011 models as well
