Know of any Internal Autodimming Rear View Mirror Substitute

Words can't describe how much I hate the auto dimming feature on our internal mirrors and I'm looking for a way to substitute back to the traditional flip-a-switch type.

Obviously there's a whole slew of other gadgets that go into the mirror though, and I'm wondering if anyone else has gone through this or found a full feature replacement (compass, homelink, microphone) without autodim...
I tried searching around the interweb and can't find anything that still retains everything. (admittedly didn't search long, was hoping to rely upon the collective knowledge of y'all.)

Thanks!
B

I've never heard of anything like that. My 12 y/o Acura has a button where you could toggle auto-dimming on and off.

That sounds like an awesome suggestion for Mercedes future models.
3 times now in the last month alone I've merged onto a highway coming home at night to find a cop car sharking that ~100 meters back. Now with Chargers, Tahoes & Taurus headlights that blend into the rest of the world I have to try and rely on body panels & ride heights, wheels & subtle light bars to look for....quite difficult when the danged mirror has blackened everything to a deep grey.

I figure with the homelink button placement in the center of the mirror someone would have to do a quite different setup to switch back to a traditional mirror. Half tempted to swap mirrors with my old w203 and just lose the compass...

Anyway, thanks for the reply. Guess I'll just keep looking & grumbling. 100 club membership might be needed for the 3 different counties I run through soon... I guess all the bumper sticker police support I'll be displaying might end up being better protection than a clear wrap.

I was trying to find it a while ago because my gf was asking about it as she was driving home...for the exact same reason. Crown Vics are obsolete so I can't see crap either. I'm not sure if those 11-99 member or stickers really work.

Just be safe. Every car can be a cop car.

There was a handy Top Gear America episode that showed the 3 choices LEOs have to replace Crown Vics - Ford Interceptor (which is the only one that's purpose built), Dodge Charge, and a redesigned Chevy Caprice.

Hey all,
Thanks for the replies.
Indeed, every car can be a cop nowadays. I recently had a heart stopper when the white-with-light-grey-lettering police Camaro decided to pull over the guy I just passed instead of me.
Then I had a charger follow me about 1/4 mile off the highway until I pulled into a gas station (the first time I EVER praised the car for being so thirsty)
Then I had a mean (and cramped) looking 6'6" highway patrolman come up and pace me/stare-me-down from his Tahoe after I made a nice spirited pass on a wolfpack.
Sigh, I thought I was much more observant than that, but this mirror is going to cost me...
I'd rather take that money and apply towards something i can see out of at night.

This here is the one that threw me. Before ~3 months ago, never spent any time on his side of town...
Dang revenue collectors.

The outer rim of the mirror (around the glass) clips off, you can then remove the mirror glass and the two wires that clip onto the mirror glass edge, if you buy a replacement mirror glass (normal mirror glass) the same shape and size as your c63 one you can then insert it into place tuck away the wires (preferably insulating them) and re clip on the mirror's outer edge frame .... Bingo normal none auto mirror

Bare in mind you wont have the flip switch but you will retain OEM look just no auto dimming function, and as long as you don't break anything the change should be reversible.

Also make sure your replacement mirror glass isn't to thick as you wont be able to re fit the frame

Put a bed pillow over your gear stick as if the mirror drops it will save any tears ( yes I found out the hard way)

The light sensor that dims the mirror is in the center top part of the mirror. Covering it with a finger or with something more permanent immediately removes the dimming. Make some semi sticky clip on thingy or use a piece of tape.
