ECU tune and camshafts
Hello guys,
I have question about ECU tuning.
I had my ECU tuned and after time my camshafts got damaged i am really not sure why it might be from the tune.
Should I re-tune the car because of replacing with the new camshafts?
Thanks all =)

I heard that there noise coming from the engine with the time it was quite but once i turn the the car on and it sounds very loud, I took the car to the workshop and they open the head and they found that one of 4 cams was making the issue and the others almost to be same so I changed them all and it cost me about 3500$ stock AMG cams .

The tune can control the cams.
These are hydraulically actuated DOHC engines. The cams are adjusted by the "cam adjusters" with oil pressure through a rotor and stator.
Noisy loud clicking/rattling can be heard on start up from the engine and is most likely the cam adjusters. I have had 2 M156 engines and both needed new cam adjusters around 60,000km.
I find it hard to believe the actual cam shafts were the issue. Lifters would need to be replaced with new cams, this is a rule across all engines. Can OP confirm if cam adjusters or shafts were replaced, and if the noise is gone now?

And it would be the same for removing the cats from exhaust for high flow ? My friend told me that even if u removes them you have to retune so if its like that ,I will re-tune after removing them.
if anybody knows i would very thankful

It's not the cams, but the lifters that cause the damage to the cams. MBZ has a replacement lifter from the SLS engine. Hopefully your shop was aware of this and changed all the lifters when they changed the cams.

Try posting in the R class forum section. There's probably more members over there with knowledge of any issue with your car. Highly doubt a ECU remap (I'm assuming you are talking about a tune) will solve your issue.

If your car is pre 2011, it was not your tune that damaged you camshafts. The design of the lifters is faulty (not the camshafts). They were replaced with lifters out of the SLS63 during MY 2010. If you have to replace your cams, you might as well pull the heads and replace the head gaskets, new design head bolts, and new designed lifters.
