Help me find a C63
Okay, it's not for me. But here's a cool story.
Christmas Eve, I was trying to buy some groceries since everything would be closed on Christmas Day. I went to one of the SF Safeways and it was packed. I had to circle for a while to even find someone pulling out. While I was waiting for them to vacate the spot, a guy in an X5 pulled up next to me. I was totally expecting him to say he had been camping out for that spot.
Instead, he starts asking me about my car. I tell him I love it and ask him why he's so interested. He tells me he's in the market for a C63. I tell give him some pros and cons about the car and make him aware about the rare, but potentially serious headbolt issue.
Then we I start talking about him about what he does. I picked up on some clues and turns out I was right, he was SFPD...off duty, though. He was super cool about talking openly about smog BS (apparently he has a "guy"), and he told me he's a huge Mustang fan. I think he said he had one from the 70's and a Cobra from the 90's. I told him about some of the local AMG meets I've organized and some other shenanigans.
Anyway, I'm asking on behalf of him - would you go for an '09 with about 58k miles from a personal friend whom you trust, has kept all service records and was the sole owner, and mostly drives highway or would you look for a slightly newer '10? His friend is only asking $25k, which I pointed out was a steal plus he could get the headbolts retrofitted and still come out on top.
Forgot to mention that he was looking at a 2010 fully loaded with 14k miles for $50k at Autobahn motors, but it got sold while he was in Disneyland with his family over Xmas.

Could you elaborate on these points as Im looking at buying a C63 in a couple months and Im curious about the headbolt issues.
What should I be looking for? and are you saying that if the issues are going to manifest themselves, they usually show up early in the engine life?

If he's willing to pay a little closer to high 50's... this car looks to be a great deal, P31, All Options, $79K sticker: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2011-...#ht_500wt_1064
Good Luck!
