Noob tire/P30 brake questions

Hi all,

Please excuse my ignorance.

Tires:
There's a lot of chatter here on our tire sizes and getting bigger tires. I'm looking to replace my tires and it seems the PSS are the ones to go with. My idiotic question is, that I assume if I want bigger tires, as some have done here, I'd need bigger rims?

P30 brakes:
I've read many articles on this forum regarding this issue. I'm actually more confused as a result.

1) Do non-P30 brakes fit or not? Many say 'yes' but some say 'no.'

2) No one seems to have found a way to replace the 2 piece rotors without replacing the hats. Is there a solution that I just have not found or is the whole notion of a '2 piece' pointless and MB makes you buy the hat instead of reusing it? If I can, I'm trying to avoid paying $4K for a brake job.

Thanks for any info.

Get your rotors measured for how thick they are.

The min thickness is stamped in the hat.

I had 60,000 hard km on mine and only 1mm of wear. Still good for another mm. I threw new pads on (didn't machine them) porter field rs4 pads...

Cost me 425 bucks to do my brakes. The dealer throws your perfectly good rotors in the garbage. P30 and non are the same size pad/rotor. You could use non p30 rotors if u wanted.

Thanks Merc,

That does help. I know I have a few more miles on the rotors...I was just dreading the eventuality.

I do have about 37000 Miles on it.

Throw the 1 piece rotors on for a couple hundred bucks.

agreed. despite what i was told by my MB parts department (no surprise), the rotors and pads are the same.

as for your tires question, you can use the same rims and go up in width a little. i am running 265's in the rear and stock size front, some are going 275 rears and 245 fronts on the stock rims.

as for reusing the hats, MB doesn't seem to just sell the discs. i tried contacting brembo, but haven't had much luck. the floating rotors really serve no appreciable service on the streets, but if you like the cool factor, then you can always go with some aftermarket floaters instead of shelling out your hard earned dough to the stealership. benzworks in huntington beach sells some, as do other companies.

Thanks Max,

I think I'll give the 265s a shot.
