Yes they run much hotter. Blame the MCT.

Stop it!!!!

Seriously, ducting coolers, guiding airflows directionally can help, but the C63 needs bigger oil coolers, plain and simple. The 44O kit works great and is actually good value (for an AMG). It's a no brainer for anybody tracking their car.

Just having some fun.

Yes, the 440 kit I hear works brilliantly. I want one.

My 44O kit has not yet been installed, but I thought I would make the drive and hope that early morning temps would be low enough for me to get a few sessions in. Well, by the time I got out on track, it was already 92F. I got 3 laps in (it's a short track) and the car went into limp mode at 275F. Tried to get back on it after cooling for a few turns, and hit limp mode in another half lap. I drove off the track, packed up my things, and drove home. So annoyed.

Anyway, this air guide works really well in the spring and fall, when the temps are at or below 80F or so. Also seems to be a benefit on long high-speed tracks, even up to about 90F. Once you get much above 90F though, forget about it, the air guide does practically nothing.
That pretty closely matches my experience. I'm not seeing any value from the air guide on my 2012 cpe - I'm fine on the streets but a road course on a hot day will quickly drive up engine oil temp and force you into limp mode . . . unless you manage rpms carefully.

I quickly ran into limp mode problems if I was running the engine up to red line on every shift. I found that I could run a long time, even on a hot day, if I didn't let it rev as far and shifted early enough to keep revs under about 6,800. Not as much fun as 7,200 rpm shifts but it beats going home early.

BLKROKT, I look forward to hearing that your 440 kit is installed and you are back out tearing up the tracks again.

Pretty sure he is still currently backed up from the previous orders and also really busy with his actual job. Might be a bit before he starts taking orders again. I think it is a great thing though since there was so much interest.

It's not hard at all to make. Just takes some measuring and fitting. If you used a standard piece of plastic (like the kind used for the other air ducting on the car), you could easily do it start-to-finish in one afternoon.

Hey I'm really sorry guys got two made and just aren't getting any good quality out of the mould. At this time don't feel comfortable with charging for something that isn't good. My suggestion is to get a pre made plate and do the cutting that way the measurements that are on thi thread are really great.
Sorry for the lack of communication on my part .

+1

I have tried this also. Especially on slower more technical tracks, this works quite well, not as fun of course. But the 44O package is probably the right thing to get if you are planing to tack car more often.

Has anyone made one using ABS instead of the CF plate? Just curious as I dont really care what the finish looks like, just want the functionality.

Anything that is moderately stiff, weatherproof and easily cut and trimmed will work.

I finally powered on my Solidworks computer for a long time. I am able to draw this up and have made. Someone can give me the dimensions i'll draw it up. Or i'll just mock one up on my car and draw it up.

All info is from this thread:

I found some smoke-gray stuff that looked pretty good but proved to fragile and was really sensitive to stress cracking. Next attempt was using plywood (3/8" luan). It isn't sexy and probably won't last long. However it is cheap and really easy to fab with just a jigsaw. I'll put a couple coats of primer on it to get through the season, spray it with some black to hide it and then build a better one over the winter.

In anticipation of making another in the future, I traced a template and saved it as a pdf. In hopes of saving someone else a lot of time measuring and fitting, I've attached a copy. It's 4 pages, full size, something you can just tape together and trace onto your material. When you print, be sure to print 'full size' and not as 'fit to page'. There are inch markings across the top so you can confirm that the size is correct.

Note that this fits a 2012+ coupe, probably fits a 2012+ sedan, and definitely does NOT fit a PFL car.

You've really demonstrated a total inability to read through threads for instructions and other info lately. It's all in here dude.

I used 1.7mm carbon fiber plate. Perfect thickness. Definitely use a respirator and cut it outside, carbon fiber particulate is very bad to inhale.

OK! Thank you!
I'll make plate from sizes that you have shown before. They accurate?
