There IS something funky with dimensions on the pic BLKROKT posted a couple years ago. Overall width was 30 but incremental dimensions across the bottom added up to something smaller.

I traced mine and posted a copy of the template (post 127) that should be a pretty close for the FL cars. PFL shape is quite different.

Yeah the dimensions are a little funky, but you're supposed to make it out of cardboard and test fit and trim until it's right. I don't need to be told it's not perfect - I mean just look at it.

Went out this morning for a Cars & Coffee meet out in Ramsey NJ. Met a couple of MBWorld AMG guys in the area which was cool too. Lots of great cars there blah blah blah.

So, going out, and coming back into the city, I do a bit of spirited driving. A few side roads, a few highway pulls, some traffic light launches, and a lot of traffic. Here are my quick observations:

1. In normal driving, my water temps are basically the same, maybe slightly cooler. Not a big difference. Oil temps were much more stable, never going above 217 in normal spirited driving with good airflow, versus 225+'ish before.

2. The big difference, huge actually, is in the STABILITY of the oil temps. In areas and hard driving conditions where it would normally be up above 225, it was still 217-219. And the best part is that it's STABLE - no wild fluctuations.

3. The most apparent where this was the case today, was in slow air, or getting to heavy traffic after really beating on it. Whereas before, a situation like that would have put my oil temps up into the 240+ range, now my oil temps didn't even go above 220. After sitting in miserable traffic for 10min, the temps would creep back up like usual to the 235-240 range, however it took a very long time. AND, when the aux oil cooler kicked on at 240, within 15sec the temps had dropped 10-15deg. Or when I got moving again, same thing. THIS was different too.

The way I see it, this plate works by insulating your intake from all that hot radiator air stacking up in front. It creates a much more stable oil temp (the oil temp, as it turns out, is correlated to the intake air temps). Under normal conditions and speeds, where there is sufficient flow, there really isn't a huge difference as all the front coolers are well-ventilated, and your intake just sucks in fresh air. However, when the air flow (speeds) slows down or stops completely, the plate no longer lets all that superheated stacked-up air up into the intake. When the plate and front end heatsoak after being in those conditions for awhile, the temps creep up more slowly, however the big difference is that the aux oil cooler no longer has to do all the work! It works far more efficiently now, and cools the oil down immediately. It's amazing, I never would have believed it unless I saw it myself this morning.

So, the real test will be Limerock next weekend, but I'm pretty confident that I'm not going to see any heating issues or limp mode.

This is a must-do as far as I'm concerned. Amazing what a little plate does to change the cooling efficiency of these cars. Many thanks to the AutoTech Racing guys for thinking this up, because it definitely does the trick.
from where can i get the plate? i live in the united kingdom at the moment

Sorry for bumping an old thread but for all the people that were interested in the group buy in this thread (which didn't end up happening), I have started a group buy in a new thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...group-buy.html.

Think I found my anti lift bracket. I was worried about access but I think I found my solution. Spark plug wire holders. It'll support it from underneath the plate and also hold a bolt on each outside hole to hold the plate down. I'm also planning on using 3m dual lock on the radiator support so taking it off would be taking 2 bolts and zip.

[QUOTE=zcct04;6383492]Attaching the plate to the radiator support leaves one radiator (power steering cooler?) above the new plate and still in an area where it could add heat to the IAT.

The upper fan shroud/air duct panel (below) already does a pretty good job of separating the air intakes from the "hot box" in front of all the coolers.

If the objective is to more effectively separate the hot air in front of the radiators from the intakes, would it make better sense to just extend the air ducts in the fan shroud/air duct panel closer to the grill and close up the hole where the hood latch is?

[/QUO

TE]

I've read up on this subject, sorry its an old thread but its a sticky link and deserves to get bumped up since there is not kit available also it been mostly reported as successful lowering temps of some type. The quote above I wholeheartedly agrees with. I think its not that the air is cooling the radiators down more or removing the air from passing into the engine bay less. It's removing the hotter air going into the air intake. Granted this mod does help but looking at it since I have everything removed on my car now, its the intake air vents that are picking up the heat imo. Would only dream of having hellcat type inlet ports on our c63's lol. But seriously has anyone data logged air intake temps stopped and while driving not just oil/coolant temps to confirms this?

And if that is the case than these type of cai make a lot of sense.

Well, maybe you should read the thread from the beginning, maybe twice. Because what you quoted as well as what you think are both pretty far off.

Not sure how, all i was saying is hotter air into the intake could be also leading to higher oil temps. But what do I know

So I was just at my local shop that preps cars for track use, and as we were aking about how fun the W204 is except for overheating, they showed me a cpuple of the blocker plates they have in CF. If I had not traded my W204 for a W205, would have picked it up for the car. It is not on their website, would have to contact them directly.
