The stock contis were good but I have no point of reference on this car. They seemed to wear quickly. But that just seems to be the nature of the beast. My next set of tires I plan to get Bridgestone SO4 pole positions to hopefully get some longer life out of them. I've heard good reviews on the SO4 and don't plan to track the C63 any more.

Yes
I'm in the minority here, but the Conti5's I had the dealer put on, while they didnt last long, gripped around turns like crazy.

You can't go wrong with Michelin PSS; they seem to be the choice tires on this forum. I currently have 265 ContiExtremeContact DW's on the rear (fronts are still stock Conti's) and I'm pretty happy with them.

I heard good things about the Bridgestone Pole Positions too. Hop on over to tirerack.com and read the reviews. It's ultimately up to you what you want and how much you want to spend.

Since this is open....

I am getting the Michelin PSS soon

I have a stock setup with the 18 inch rims. I've read and decided im doing 265/30/18 on the back but what should I do on the front? I want ZERO problems or issues with these tires so I don't want to rub or have any sort of issue.

I went with PSS 245/35 front and 265/30 rear and absolutely love them! Huge difference from the stock conti's.

Like I mentioned also several times, 265/30/18 is truly the best fit, look and performance for the rear...

For the front is 245/35/18

Bottom line.

Yes (Michelin PSS) but not in those sizes on the OEM 8"/9" rims.

I am curious. Does 245 in the front really make much of a difference in terms of handling? I currently have 235 in the front, but feel that I could use a little more grip when steering.

All other things being equal (same make/model of tire, same sidewall stiffness, 10mm wider tire mounted on a 1/2" wider rim, same pressures), then in theory yes. If you're expecting a night-and-day difference, then no. You can't cheat Newton's laws.

I don't follow the "I could use a little more grip when steering" comment - are you talking about pushing hard on the track or normal street driving? You'd have to enter a corner pretty fast on the road to make the front end plow.

The reason you don't want to go any wider is because if you think about it, you will be stretching the tire over a wheel that cannot accommodate that size. Yes you will get more tire surface area to pavement, but you are ripping the tire side to side and thus pulling it off the outer wheel edge. You risk the tire literally coming off the wheel. For the track you are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to use tires that correspond to what the wheel will accommodate. Some dealerships (my MB dealer) will not even mount a tire that is not the right size due to liability issues. Or they make you sign a waver.

Always use what should fit or work...if you go out of that boundary you are risking major damage and potential accidents.

+1.

(that's why I mentioned the wider rim in my post)

I don't track my car, so it's mainly for road driving. I guess what I was trying to get at is getting the most grip out my stock 18s. I currently have 235/265 on 18's...would that be sufficient for daily driving? Or should I up to 245?

Michelin PSS. Just went with a new set after having Hankook Ventus V12's on the rear, and PSS are much better on lateral grip. Road noise is considerably lower than V12's too. I expect at least 7k-8k miles from the rears from what I read on the forum.

BTW, don't go with the OEM Pirelli PZero's, those were awful...

A Michelin PSS 235/35 probably has the same thread width as a Continental 245/35, and the PSS has both a stiffer sidewall and is stickier than the Conti so it will perform noticeably better. As for whether you go with 235 or 245 of the same tire - I am afraid I can't offer any input there, but keep in mind that a 245 width tire is the absolute maximum you can safely mount on an 8" wide rim.

this. 275 is squishy in the rear on stock 18s. 265 has plenty of meat

Yes
265 PSS' look horrible, major sidewall. With PSS would stick with stock sizes.

But again, don't count out the Conti5's, aside from tread life and noise/ride towards the end, they are great, super grippy.

Yes
You're right, everyone's eyes are drawn to different things. Someone posted up a good comparison a while back, the 265's look downright chunky! If it doesn't bother you, go for it why not.
