New 507 Owner!

Hey Everyone!

I just picked up a new AMG C63 507 Edition this last Sunday! I only have about 120 miles on it so far, but I like what I have seen thus far! While I have owned several cars in this segment, this is the first Mercedes I have ever owned, so please feel free to get me up to speed.. Color is slate grey with the black wheels.. It's fully loaded and stickered out at $91,880.

I wanted to get an oil separator/catch can installed on this car right away. I found a couple that supposedly fit the AMG C63 but my engine compartment looks to be laid out a bit differently from all the pictures I have seen on the sites that sell them. I would appreciate some help on this (including how to install it; I cant even find the PVC valve!).

Thanks everyone, and I will try to get some pictures up soon!

Congrats!

There's a "W204 secrets" thread floating around that might be helpful. Check with the Weistec guys. I know they make a separator but I'm not sure if it'll be compatible with your car. They're a forum sponsor.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does a catch can do anyway? There was quite a bit of talk about people getting them added to their B7 RS4s to prevent a buildup issue, but I never really followed what they are all about.

The best one. Search Weistec for oil/air separator. few hundred bucks and worth it.

Appears I can only add an image from a url... Still waiting for an email confirmation from imageshack so decided to try stinking flickr only to later learn they don't allow direct linking to images! What the heck?!?!?!

So, here are a couple shots of the car on the stinking flickr site I had to create while I am waiting for imageshack to send me an email:

Catch cans

A catch can is used to "catch" oil and stop it from entering the intake manifold. The oil you are trying to "catch" is a byproduct of re-circulating crank case ventilation back through the engine in an attempt to lower emissions. The down side of this re-circulation is the vaporized oil mucks up the throttle body, sensors, etc., and can lead to all sorts of gremlins (CEL, rough idle, loss of power, hesitation, etc).

I have catch cans install on both a Shelby GT500 and Jeep SRT-8 and the amount of oil they stop from re-entering the intake is significant! In my opinion, they are well worth their money. They also appear to be more important on large displacement and/or turbo/supercharged motors.

Looks great - couple questions since you are a new owner.

What is the deal with the DRL's how do they look on the 507. Are the side view mirrors power folding? Is there any start/stop technology on these cars (god I hope not). Are the rear taillights full LED?

Did you get a deal or pretty much sticker...

Thanks -

I will try to take a pic later today with the DRL's on so you can see for yourself. The mirrors are *not* power folding. I believe there is start/stop technology but you can turn the feature on and off (read this in the manual). The dealer configured the car before I got it so I am not sure what all they did at this point, but my car stays running all the time.. I will try to verify whether the feature really exists or not later today. I will also check on whether the taillights are full LED; it definitely has quite a few regardless, just not sure whether ALL of them are LED. As for price, I paid pretty much sticker. In the end I was able to get the car for $3500 under sticker, but the car also literally has every option, so I am sure there was some extra cushion for them to work with.

Great thanks for the answers - enjoy. I think I will get the same color, have seen that many times now and even with the black wheels looks pretty sinister.

I would be curious on the start/stop - I had a 250 loaner and it literally gave me a headache sitting in traffic for an hour...I just kept thinking about the strain the electrical system, starter, battery etc every time it cycled...and for what like 1-2 % savings in fuel?

Not sure why they would even try that on a 6.3 motor...

For the DRL's I see so many different designs on the MB cars nowadays, wish they would standardize like Audi/BMW has to a degree...

My understanding is the start/stop is not available on the C63. It may be available on the E or CLS AMG models though.

I like the black wheels with that gray. Give nice twist on the sinister black/black look.

Lots
No doubt, that 507 is sweet. I just bought a fully loaded 2013 P31 sedan for $20k less than what you paid as I could not justify the difference between the 507 and P31 at $20k.

Awesome car. Congrats!

I originally drove a 2013 P31 AMG C63 and while the overall feel of the car is very similar, it just didn't quite have the right "look" I was going for. Having said this, I totally understand your point of not wanting to spend the extra $20K for what is arguably not much additional perceived value. For me however, the value was there and it made sense.

Now I just need to tweak a couple things to make it "mine"...

Thanks for the lead... I ordered one today along with a new air filter! From what I could tell, the quality looks top notch!

Thanks again!
