507 Exhaust Crackle and No Paddle shift while turning

Hi all,

So I have had my car a few days (507 sedan), and have experienced a few things and wanted to know if they are normal / usual for C63s.

The first is the amount of crackle I get on downshifts when engine braking. Does everyone get this? Don't get me wrong, it sounds great, but it sounds more like a race car than a road car.

The other one is I noticed that the paddle shifters dont seem to trigger a shift if the steering wheel is turned (ie if you want to shift gears going around a corner then you have to use the stick shifter), is this correct? I didn't do extensive testing on this but the couple of tries I had seemed to yield this result.

Hell yeah...I love that crackle sound..sounds badass. Was it in M mode or Sport M mode? Haven't tried shifting around corners much (just started playing with the paddle shifters a few days ago)

Noticed it in M mode, mostly, not sure if it happens in S or S+.

Do you have a vanilla C63? Or has it been tuned?

No mines a Black 09 P31 ...yeah it's been tuned with the Velos tune...quite retarded in M mode now...seems like 120Km happens in no time. I'd recommend a tune but I'm pretty sure the 507 is pretty tuned up already isn't it?

Yes, thats why I asked. Was wondering whether the crackle is normal, and if so, is it unique to tuned/507 cars, or do all C63s do it?

EDIT: it seems that this would be the result of a highly tuned engine rather than standard.

I can shift while I turn, just seemingly not with the paddles. Will retest if others dont have this problem.

Yes
Crackle is normal. Not shifting during turning is not.

often times lack of sensitivity is caused by distortion of the paddle assembly due to over tightening of the mounting screw. (see attached pic). Overtightening and/or off-angle trauma to paddle can also cause the paddle "frame" to crack (generally eminating from mounting hole in frame casting). this will make operation of the paddle hit and miss as well.

for those seeking to increase sensitivity of the paddle (that is not otherwise damaged), you can disasemble the paddle and put a plastic shim under the pcb (printer circuit board with integral switch). 0.020" is a goog place to start. This shimming is a necessity in some cases where factory paddles have been modified with carbon fiber coating.

relative to the OP's experience with his low-functioning paddles, I agree with those opinions already stated, paddles should (must) work while steering ....

cheers,
Chris

Also are you running in Manual, Sport or Sport +? On sport and sports+ it doesn't respond all the time i guess for protection but manual you should be able to shift on turns.

Try flipping the rear seats down. The car will sound twice as good.

Thanks for all the replys, was finally able to test this after being away a few days. All good, it does shift with paddles with the steering wheel turned, although I think I prefer the shifter anyway as it takes the guesswork out of what is up and down...
