Help looking to buy c63
Hi Everybody,
I have a few questions if anybody could help. I figured this would be the place to go with it.
Currenty I drive a 05 evolution mr with 440whp that I have heavy modded over the years, love the car but im need a change after 8 years.
So heres my question I really love the c63, I test drove a 09 and love the v8 power the look and feel of the car. Im not a rich man by any means make around 50k a year. Everybody telling me not to get it because of mantanice cost would be to high and I would be able to afford it. What kind of problems do these cars have if any and any other cost it would have to own one. The dealers that I have talked to could not offer me a aftermarket warrenty.
Thank you any info I could get would be a help

The biggest common problem on 09's is the head holy problem which is a 5K fix. You WILL need the warranty. To be dead honest, I wouldn't get one on that salary until you have enough in the bank that losing the 30-40k wouldn't mean anything to you. And yes maintainance is pretty high.
Hope I helped.

If you decide to have any fun with the C63
- you'll be paying a lot in tires
- considerably more in gas cost.
50k a yr won't cut it on a depreciating 450 hp car which has the maintenance of a 80k car. Factor in tires, and out of warranty costs and you'll be hit pretty hard where it hurts most.
I wouldn't recommend one unless your parents are "buying" one for you.

if you are young and single 50k is a decent paycheck (avg household income in the US ~52k and avg individual salary ~32k)
I'm sure you realize you will never recover a fraction of whay you have pumped into the evo and the C63 will be the same. The key imho is to put a lot down, find a good rate for the balance and keep the car for a few years after paid off. C63's are not expensive cars, a used one is 40k. Maintenance cost will be propotional to how many miles you drive and how much of it you do yourself. The 2 biggies will be tires and gas (mpg is terrible), everything else is about the same as long as you follow the MB schedule. Obviously if you do 5k mile oil changes rater than 10k it will cost twice as much.
Only you know your finances:
if you own vs rent your residence that is important
are you maxing' out your retirement savings? as far as your employers match
no credit card debt
some cash in the bank, at least 3 months pay
secure in your employment situation
you are probably OK

Um. I make <50k/year and have 2 cars (c63/135i), house, dogs, etc. The catch, I am single.
Love my c63. If it is your DD then maintenance can get pricey but have a warranty to protect yourself from the headbolt issue and you're fine. Everyone says look out for it but I think to be fair it has been quite hyped up and yes, it happens. But it is rare at the end of the day.

Thank you everybody for your feedback, I am married and the c63 would not be my daily driver so im not worried about gas mileage to much. I found one here in wpb at a ford dealer for 38 k that has a renntech tune with 52k mles on it. maybe I will call them and ask if it has had a head bolt repair? I would be looking to buy outright after selling the evo.

But yeah! Make sure to get it checked out. It might not have it that early on. And that's a good price! And good decision buying outright, financing is usually not the best idea unless you HAVE to!
Good Luck!

Finance it if you can afford it. At the least get a 24 month power train warranty. Probably 1200$. These are the best rates you as a young man will ever see in your life. Penn fed is 1.9 % 48 months.
I predict 2014 Rates will double on cars and will be back to 6% on 30 year mortgages

the first few weeks I had my C63 I had to replace the intake manifold but it was shot before...that alone was 4k ...New tires are 2k or so...Gas is quite a bit..I don't even pay attention anymore but yeah...I'd suggest 50k+ a year to own a C63

Tires are definitely not $2k! I paid less than $900 installed for a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports (235/265) in SoCal. That said, the tires usually last 5-6k miles, so you'll end up paying a lot for the tires if you drive your car a lot.

Really? a local tire company here quoted me like $550-ish a tire..then cost of install etc..kinda crazy.

Hey,
I went from a 400whp Evo 8 GSR to the C63. I miss my Evo. The AMG is nice, but missing the rawness of the Evo, of course.
Tires are the biggest recurring cost really. It goes through rear tires like no ones business. I too have an 09, but the head bolt problem is rare. However, affordability with 50k a year is really dependent on your location.
