Coolant Warning - 2013 C63 PP
Hi guys
I have a coolant message pop up every morning… car has done 24k miles and has been popping up every other day now pretty much daily.
Having searched the forum and seeming the head bolt issue thread, I'm a bit confused…
You'll have to forgive my lack of understanding I really do not know anything whatsoever about engines and my eyes pretty much glaze over when I read that thread!!
A friend of mine had a look at the coolant level and it was full. It was pretty much at max level. Obviously I'm gonna get it checked out at MB now but wanted to ask what this problem is all about?
Am I right in saying that the coolant level dipping (or sensor) is a sign of forthcoming problems with the block head/head gasket etc??? What type of problem is this? is it serious?
Thanks
Narinder

for all you know a rat could've chewed on the wire causing it to short intermittantly. take it in , its underwarranty theres nothing to be scared of.

a rat chewed up the fuel lines on another car I have. that was a nice surprise, especially when all the fuel started dumping out of the car when I started it up.

Narinder, have you added any coolant after getting the low coolant warning every other day? If your coolant is actually going down in level every day and you are having to add coolant to bring the level back up then you do have a problem. If your coolant level is nearly full and not going down then you probably have a a coolant level going down just enough to trigger the sensor now that the nights are cooling off and the coolant is contracting a little from the lower temperatures. It likely just needs to be topped up a little to the correct fill level. Just take it to the dealer and get him to add a little coolant. They should top it up for free. I am sure your dealer will tell that everything is fine and that you don't have a problem. You should not have waited this long to contact your dealer.

I haven't topped it up at all and didn't between the days of the messages. I went to top it up today and it was full literally to the brim so it really doesn't need it. I'm gonna call dealership tomorrow and take it in. No doubt it's either just a sensor issue or nothing serious I hope. When my friend opened the cap it was expelled some gas and pressure from it and also had a slight gargle. He said the pressure is normal but maybe the gargle shouldn't have happened he said it could be losing pressure? He also checked the oil to see if water was present- none.

It only expelled the pressure and gargled because it was too hot when he opened it. A hot cooling system can likely build up to 15 psi of pressure due to expansion of the heated coolant and depending on the pressure relief valve in the reservoir. Check it when it is cold first thing in the morning before you start it to check the level.

^^ ditto. Never check ur coolant (open the reservoir) when the engine is hot. Very dangerous.
Check it when cold for better accurate level. Could be just a faulty sensor or missing a tiny bit of antifreeze (when cold).
Is the warning light on only when the car is cold in the morning or does it go on when the engine is hot as well?
