Oil leak from diff after fitting wavetrac

After fitting a wavetrac diff centre to my 2013 c63 i found that oil was
coming out of the breather after short run 2-3 km, i thought it may be the oil i had used so i refilled it with gen merc oil, i have check the breather and all is clear, i have now attached a long hose to the breather to raise it as high as possible, i still get some oil coming but only very slight, i have contacted wavetrac via arsha, and they have no idea what is causing it. i believe that the different shape of the centre is spraying oil at the breather port, has anybody elsle had this problem??? seams like i may have to install a shield inside the diff house to try and stop the problem,

Maybe too much oil.

The problem was the c clips that hold the diff bearings in were not aligned with the oil breather ports, the gaps in the c clips must be at the top. when installing a wave trac centre you also have to grind a little from the diff housing, they do not fit straight in.
all good now with no leaks.

Yes it does. You just have to slip it in with without 2 ring gear bolts (beside each other) and install them after it's mounted by clamping the pinion.

in my case it did not go straight in, even with two bolts removed, I also saw this posted by another installer, I guess not all casting are exactly the same,
no great drama either way

there is more info on this forum regarding the need to modify the housing. https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...d-special.html

You have to fiddle with it to make it fit. There was nearly 1/4" of clearance with the 2 bolts removed. I doubt the pumpkin casting would have that much variance unless they changed it in 2012.

That post is likely when all ring gear bolts are installed.

Damn I bet my issue is the same. Slight leak after LSD install. We didn't think we pinched the seals putting the axles in. Does anyone have any pics of this c-clip area? A local diff builder swapped my centres over so I haven't seen what's under the seals.

Is this breather port only on the same side as the breather?

I had a decent leak after having my Wavetrac fitted. The shop who did it said this is common as oil leaks out of the breather when you install a new diff. I got it all cleaned up and it hasn’t leaked since.

Mine has been 6 weeks and cleaned several times. It's worse than ever.

Yep I really hope so. It's mostly been sitting on the front lawn for a month now. I really have absolutely no motivation to pull the diff back out again. It's certainly been a cause for a lot of stress in the household! My wife has had to daily drive the big 3 tonne petrol Patrol which puts the C63's fuel consumption to shame .

Since I repositioned the C CLIPS, 6 years ago now, I have had no oil leak problem, wish I knew about it before I fitted it the first time

I had the exact same problem a couple of years ago and posted it here: https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...ed-advice.html

The problem was solved by repositioning the C CLIPS as @ClivePratt indicated...
