PlastiDIP

Well, the good ol' PlastiDIP always works wonders.

Went ahead and blacked out a few things today, Front grill (partial), rear spoiler, Trunk trim and badges. This wasn't the best work but it worked out well.

I will redo in the future, there is some texture on the PlastiDip I don't like.
I'm going to Carbon Wrap these parts later, but the PlastiDip looks good for now.

The front grill was a PITA to remove, I removed the chrome pieces from the grill and sprayed them separately. The rest was taped on vehicle.

This is really nice for a temporary add on! It's amazing how far Plastidip has come.

I'm mad at myself for plasti-dipping my grille. I wish I had wrapped it. Reason is because you will NEVER get all of the dip off of the mesh on the grille.

You can use a product from dipmycar that will remove the plastidip by basically returning it to its original state and then power washes away. The downside is that it discolors plastic so you'd have to paint it anyway. Ultimately I'd like to do that but yours came out well.

How is it up close? Bubbly?

You made a mistake, you were supposed to remove the chrome pieces from the grill prior to spraying them.

Looks great upclose, not bubbly, smooth.

The trick with PlastiDip is to spray layers slowly, don't rush to get the thick layer. Just spray and let it dry, spray again and let it dry, repeat.

More pictures under lighting to show PlastiDip texture.

Debating on painting the roof spoiler as well.

I think this car needs eye lids to adjust the look of the headlamp. I don't like these bulky headlamps.

I would just put painters tap around it so I won't have to take it off. /lazy I'll try it out when I get my car back

When you did the back emblems and AMG logo how did you peel it away so it didn't come off the logo? How many coats did you do?? I tried to do the fog light housing but it never peeled away well so I took it all off... I'm a bit to OCD to not have it perfect.

Just tape a square around the emblem, say 1-2" away from the badge, spray the whole square, about 5 coats, thick.

When you pull the PlastiDip from the trunk lid, it will cut off around the emblem all by itself 100% perfect. You just have to pull slowly and carefully.

I will do the fog lamps soon, will add pictures to this thread to help you guys out. I will remove them from the bumper. I don't think you can tape around them. I think they are fugly in chrome.
Why does Merc use chrome trim on AMG cars? BMW knows better than this and uses shadow-line trim or just plain flat black! Dammit. So does Audi, and every other German manufacturer, chrome is for Cadillacs.

Good job, really pops on silver. Wonder how this stuff would work on the diffuser? On black the "greyish" color doesn't really look that good. A matte black might be better.

I have the same color and have blacked out fogs... but get ready for frequent touch ups... I'm thinking plastdip may hold up better here and who cares about color texture down there.

I recall someone posting that they plastidipped them by careful painters tape and lots on newspaper around.
