Anyone see the '14 Camaro z28?
- The new camaro Z/28 7l N/A V8 engine
- The future C63 AMG adopting twin turbo and smaller engine displacement
Quite frankly if the new C is a total disappointment for less than the price of a C63BS this car could be a good alternative.
Thanks for sharing.
I am, however, seriously warming up to American cars and would love to pick up a z06

Another way to look at it is that two of the most innovative German car companies (BMW and Mercedes) are innovating some more.
It's no secret that a large displacement, normally aspirated V8 can crank out power (fuel economy be damned). While I love the character of these NA motors, squeezing 360 horsepower out of a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder (A45/CLA45/GLA45) is a technologically impressive feat.
Personally, I'm glad that AMG and M are going the forced induction route.
In the face of increasingly stringent fleet emissions standards, downsizing and turbocharging are both inevitable realities. Smaller displacement, turbocharged motors are the future. And now that the most competitive form of racing (F1) has gone the FI route, I'm not surprised that AMG and M are doing the same.
PS: I've driven the Camaro ZL1 a few times and while it was fun, the quality of the interior materials was lacking and visibility was poor (rear visibility was virtually non-existent).

The Best of Mercedes & AMG

For sure the camar's interior in the ZL1 is crap. I saw one and i felt bad inside. I don't know about the new one though. But if you are looking for strict performance I would prefer going the N/A route!
F1 is now using these FI engine and boy it is boring. The fans, even Bernie Ecclestone (F1 boss) are complaining about the sound of these engines. F1 has always been the R&D of new tech for the production cars down the road but for the fun of the sport it took a slight step down IMO so far. Let's see how the season will develop and how the new C63 will be
This is also a great car id love to own that does it for a whole lot cheaper and has some great offerings, carbon brakes standard?
If you're a guy who does lots of track events this would be a great car for that.
Comparing this to a regular camaro is pointless they are very different. Like comparing a bs to a c350.
Looks wise the exterior is ok and I don't like the interior but what a blast it would be to bomb around in.
If you want track times, isn't the smarter choice just to get a Z06?

I'll take you up on that bet.....
2012 Z06 runs 11.7's or better all day long (some factory freaks are running high 10's on a tire)
The new Z28 can only do a 12.2 best....
On the track, with equal tires, a Z06 would walk a Z28 all day. Its simple math....
Z06 = 3400 lbs.
Z28 = 3900 lbs.
Z28's are tanks....and its really the only performance car GM can talk about at the moment, while waiting for the Z06 next year.
On a side note, as much as I love the z06 im pretty sure the camaro is an easier car to drive. Supposedly it's much easier to track the zl1 because the z06 is so hard to actually drive fast. however the z06 can go around the track just as fast in the right hands even though 100hp down and weight disadvantage.

Hats off to GM (also Mopar and perhaps Ford) for giving consumers choices and making these large displacement muscle cars.

They're innovating because they're finding new ways to extract monster power from smaller displacement, forced induction motors. And they've come a long way from the earlier turbo motors that may have been unreliable or plagued by turbo lag.
Large displacement, normally aspirated motors have been around a long, long time.
And yeah, Ford and GM have a few NA options left. However, the vast majority of their cars are now FI.
