Yep looks like a great car. Drivers car for sure.
Lots of guys on here wouldn't look twice though because gm made it.
Willing to bet it would give a c63 BS a spanking.

Funny how 2 car companies go the opposite way. Like one doesn't care about fuel economy!
- The new camaro Z/28 7l N/A V8 engine
- The future C63 AMG adopting twin turbo and smaller engine displacement
Quite frankly if the new C is a total disappointment for less than the price of a C63BS this car could be a good alternative.
Thanks for sharing.

2012 CLS63
yeah, I read it's the first production car to have 305's on all four corners

I get that it is an awesome car, and I would drive the hell out of one. But, the technology and capabilities behind these modern TT setups (such as the CLS/E63) I'm thinking that will be the next way I go.
I am, however, seriously warming up to American cars and would love to pick up a z06

Another way to look at it is that two of the most innovative German car companies (BMW and Mercedes) are innovating some more.
It's no secret that a large displacement, normally aspirated V8 can crank out power (fuel economy be damned). While I love the character of these NA motors, squeezing 360 horsepower out of a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder (A45/CLA45/GLA45) is a technologically impressive feat.
Personally, I'm glad that AMG and M are going the forced induction route.
In the face of increasingly stringent fleet emissions standards, downsizing and turbocharging are both inevitable realities. Smaller displacement, turbocharged motors are the future. And now that the most competitive form of racing (F1) has gone the FI route, I'm not surprised that AMG and M are doing the same.
PS: I've driven the Camaro ZL1 a few times and while it was fun, the quality of the interior materials was lacking and visibility was poor (rear visibility was virtually non-existent).

I rented a Camaro recently. No, it wasn't a Z28 but I was SHOCKED at how much of a POS it was. Next time I'll take any equivalent Japanese sedan.

For sure the camar's interior in the ZL1 is crap. I saw one and i felt bad inside. I don't know about the new one though. But if you are looking for strict performance I would prefer going the N/A route!
F1 is now using these FI engine and boy it is boring. The fans, even Bernie Ecclestone (F1 boss) are complaining about the sound of these engines. F1 has always been the R&D of new tech for the production cars down the road but for the fun of the sport it took a slight step down IMO so far. Let's see how the season will develop and how the new C63 will be

Not bash a black series. It's a great car id love to own.
This is also a great car id love to own that does it for a whole lot cheaper and has some great offerings, carbon brakes standard?
If you're a guy who does lots of track events this would be a great car for that.
Comparing this to a regular camaro is pointless they are very different. Like comparing a bs to a c350.
Looks wise the exterior is ok and I don't like the interior but what a blast it would be to bomb around in.

Why would anyone pay $75k for a Z28? Lets put a Z06 motor in a heavier and less agile package and then pretend its something revolutionary and a world beater, in one single test, but gets smoked as soon as you get it on the street.
If you want track times, isn't the smarter choice just to get a Z06?

I'll take you up on that bet.....
2012 Z06 runs 11.7's or better all day long (some factory freaks are running high 10's on a tire)
The new Z28 can only do a 12.2 best....
On the track, with equal tires, a Z06 would walk a Z28 all day. Its simple math....
Z06 = 3400 lbs.
Z28 = 3900 lbs.
Z28's are tanks....and its really the only performance car GM can talk about at the moment, while waiting for the Z06 next year.

my friend ran a 12.0 in a stock z06 when they were new. Made me so mad, my supra ran a 12.1 and out mph'd him by 5mph i just didnt have the tire to come off the line. The biggest thing to consider isnt necessarily the numbers written on paper. Sure that's what the car is capable of doing in the hands of .0001%, where as the black series could out perform both the zo6 and z28 in the hands of 50%. It's not always about numbers - thats an advertising gimmick. It's about the overall package and delivery. What good is a car when it's wrapped around a poll.... ahem.... seem to see lots of corvettes, camaros and mustangs like this
On a side note, as much as I love the z06 im pretty sure the camaro is an easier car to drive. Supposedly it's much easier to track the zl1 because the z06 is so hard to actually drive fast. however the z06 can go around the track just as fast in the right hands even though 100hp down and weight disadvantage.

Also please note that c63 is mainly a 2008 design and technology. What gives the edge to the z is its magnetic suspension.

Hats off to GM (also Mopar and perhaps Ford) for giving consumers choices and making these large displacement muscle cars.

Don't forget Audi they practically invented the german lux/sport turbo-charged segament. My problem is that Audi/BMW/Benz are all doing the exact same thing in terms of engine R&D. How is that innovative? Some consumers want turbo, some want displacmement. Some need fuel economy, others own Exxon stock. AMG going forced induction on all models is a mistake IMO.

They're innovating because they're finding new ways to extract monster power from smaller displacement, forced induction motors. And they've come a long way from the earlier turbo motors that may have been unreliable or plagued by turbo lag.
Large displacement, normally aspirated motors have been around a long, long time.
And yeah, Ford and GM have a few NA options left. However, the vast majority of their cars are now FI.

Funny.. I rented a Camaro SS last year after flying into South Carolina, the whole week I had the car I hated it thought it was a POS. And at the time I was driving a 12' E350(nothing special). My wife, who doesn't know sh*t about cars was driving a C300 thought the same thing.
