As a side tangent has anyone done the cutoff's? Why aren't they more popular? Sounds like a perfect solution as you could have stock exhaust or loud exhaust with the flick of a switch?

I wish I could hear that and stock exhaust side by side to get the idea of the difference.
Yes, that's it. I know there are some decent videos of stock C63 exhaust out there on youtube. Tough to get true sound through some computer or phone speakers, but you should still be able to tell the difference. I had a couple from when I first was looking so if I can find them, I will post them up.

johnny's vids just confirmed that is exactly what i want.

where the heck do i get the pipes from????? Anyone?? I want to get them myself so that way i know it's quality ****.

Also johnny, when normal driving, does it drone? I love the fact that when i'm cruising i can't even hear the car right now. Hopefully it will stay somewhat like that when i delete the secondary cat

Not at all, it sounds exactly like stock at idle once warmed up and at cruising speed. It's only noticeable when you are on the throttle. On deceleration, pops, crackles, and burbles are much more pronounced too!

As far as where, find a shop locally that has a good reputation. There are no bends to make, and as long as they use SS, it should be fine. Here are a few pictures of the final product.

Looks like the shop cut them right at the welds of the secondary cats as well? I feel bad about cutting through my exhaust

I really love those pops and crackles and want lots of them...are they actually noticeable now?

dude you're asking a ton of redundant questions. just do it already. it's not a lambo mixed in with rocket science.

yes, they are very noticeable, especially at low speed coming to a stop...it just rumbles, and I can hear it in the car, windows up.

Thanks johnny I will be doing this if I don't end up trading my car. we will know in a couple of weeks.

Also Johnny, how much did you end up paying for it to get done entirely? I wanna see if my exhaust guy is trying to rip me off or what. And it's 2.5" right?

We did a side by side, comparison at the car meet , sec cat delete had a quite a bit more rumble on startup than my stock exhaust. Pretty much exactly what I'd want, just s tad louder than stock with more rumble

Just a thought

Hi guys, interesting conversation. I live in California and am currently retired but did work with the MB product for 40 years in a technical position. That being said the installation of an X pipe alters the scavenging effects caused by using positive and negative exhaust pulse pulses to aid in combustion chamber filling kind of like overlap in a camshaft. Modern engines are built with variable camshaft timing so the effects are minimized compared to older technology. As for the rear set of O2 sensors they are actually there to report to the control module as to the catalyst efficiency, they want to see a certain variance in reported voltages indicating proper cat function so if you have them and delete them you will get a light. Perhaps a modified ME control module will solve that issue, I don't have any idea as to aftermarket mods for these cars but I do know they are available for American made cars at some expense keeping in mind that a tuner working out of his garage are likely not going to achieve what a manufacture can technically.

Well whatever it is, I have asked my shop to get the straight pipes ready and will be going ahead with this.

Bill, we are not talking about primary cats that have pre/post cat sensors, only the secondary cats, which have no sensors monitoring them at all.

MB C320
This is a great thread, but I'm in South Africa and I have a C32 which was too quiet. All I've done is to delete the Rear Muffler and I had a "Y-Piece" welded-in at about the rear axle which splits into two 3" pipes to the rear factory diffuser/end-piece. Two twin-pipe tailpipes were welded-in as well to exit as a quad-pipe set-up, all in Stainless Steel. It sounds great with no drone at all, but just a pleasant burble or growl. However, I can hear a secondary-cat "rattle" at times and I suspect the cats may have to be deleted soon. I'm not looking for a Ford V6 sound so I may just fit two Resonators in stainless? Hope it is not too noisy then? Any experience with the V6 quad-pipe set-up?

I will make it really easy for you:

REMOVE Secondary Cats - replace with a straight pipes - DONE!

Leave everything else stock. It will sound just like stock, but with a better exaggerated deeper note - NO DRONE, and NO annoying loud mess and NO raspiness. Simply put, it will sound just like stock, but a few decibels louder/better.

Removing the resonator will result in a much louder note and raspiness. Some like it, but others dont.

Again, if you want the classy deep AMG deep sound with just a tad louder/noticeable presence - just REMOVE the SECONDARY CATS - DONE!!!!

I think ours is 2.5"...that is what I got my exhaust guy to order for me anyway. And yes HardC63, I have already ordered the two straight pipes from my local guy in stainless steel and 2.5" thickness. Will be getting them installed as soon as he gets them in. Will get rid of the secondary cat.

I got a local muffler shop to chop my 2nd cat and res and replaced it with straight pipes. I'm loving it so far little bit loud for my taste but regular cruising is only a bit louder. The exhaust note fantastic and it's much more satisfying to stomp on the gas. I give this mod 9/10.

I just got the cheap aluminum instead, so what if they rust up in 10 years, I might not have the car by then or I can just replace it again...It's on the bottom of the car and it's not like I'm looking at it everyday.
