Anyone has experience with these at all? What you guys think, a decent cheap alternative to actual CF parts?

Cheap? Yes. Decent.....that's debatable.

In all honesty it looks nothing like real carbon fiber.

Lots of people are wrapping...this seems similar, no?

These overlays have actually come a long way. There are 2 main issues with overlays.

1. You know they are an overlay as soon as you look at them,
2. When you stick the CF overlay ontop of your ashtray for instance, the ash tray does not go in all the way due to the raised portion of the overlay.

You may get away with it, but I would either get your stock pieces wrapped in real CF or just get them painted.

Hmmm...I thought I found a cheap option but don't want it to look tacky and ruin a nice car.

Haha papshango you got hooked on the CF look! If you're willing to learn and have time you can come by and I can teach you and help you wrap it!

The whole kit would definitely look tacky, and would ruin the interior of the car IMO.

The only piece I'm thinking of wrapping is around the arm rest area on my 2010

Haha I would love to make a day out of it! Grab a 12 pack of your favourite and work on it! I've been in Calgary for the past couple of weeks cause I had a motorbike accident but my car is in Edmonton, next time when i come back for the weekend perhaps we can plan something.

Where did you order the wrap from? Maybe I can do that and have it with me for when we get the chance to work on it?

Just buy some 3M wrap, and spend a few hours and do it.
I did it, as an alternative to the OEM CF parts swap, and i am happy with the result.
The think about the overlays, they dont get right into the corners.
So, there is always like 1mm of original surface showing around the perimeter. It will annoy the hell out of you.

Here are some pics of mine, this is with 3M 1080p Matte (ish) wrap.

With the door trims, i left them on the car while wrapping.

The centre console i removed. No screws. It all popped out.

The main thing to do is get the "weave" uniform.

I don't know how I'd manage to cut it around the door handles and seat position adjusters etc...if someone like Snowmuch who's done it can help then I am sure we can tackle it. On my own I am bound to mess it up I already know it

The door handles is easy.
yes, the tricky part was the seat memory buttons, and seat position adjusters. Just have to be patient and take your time with it. Its def do-able.

I want Piano Black trims. Any idea? Or would painting them be the closest thing to getting them done?

I thought about attempting this, but am tentative as Im just not sure I have the patience.
Does that 1080 come pre adhesed, or do you have to spray adhese it?

The 3M comes with the sticky stuff on the back.

We did my mates M3 with the other dry carbon wrap (not real carbon), and it was the 99% EXACT as the factory carbon on the dash. We did his centre console.
That didn't have the adhesion on the back, and we used Selley quick spray glue.
Man, that glue is GOOD stuff. VERY VERY strong. Was pretty easy to apply it.

As far a Piano Black [I love the piano black look], that would need to be professionally painted. I would think, to get that depth of black, it would need multiple clear coats.

But, i don't think piano black would look good, against a black interior. Too much black/black/black. Might look boring. Also, on such a small interior.

S class, CL, etc. Yes, looks great, because the piano black is quite expansive. Little C Class, not so sure.

And I was thinking the same thing with the blk/blk/blk.
My alternative was to go blk alcantera as it gives a different dimension of texture and could look a little more grey than black against the blk interior of the car. I was then thinking of getting the alcantera AMG knob to go along with it.

Alcantara would be awesome. Love that. Never thought of that, but that would be nice IMO

Would be different. I haven't done anything as of yet because I feel if I were to go Alcantera (Alcantara... spelling?) I would then want to put Alcantera inserts in the seats and that would get pricing as hell!

At some point I will more than likely either go CF wrap or Alcantera, we shall see.

Yeah, i feel ya. Alcantara in the seats, would just finish it off totally. Perfect.

But man, start with the CF wrap. Its a couple of hours job. I mean, i love my little DIY projects. But really, its not that hard.

Worst thats going to happen, is you lose a couple of hours of your time, and $100 in 3M wrap (probably cheaper in the US then here anyway)

I am wondering how a red cf wrap would look good on the trip pieces. Saw some on ebay and thinking about it, it would add quite a nice contrast to the interior. But not sure though would like to see it first though.

That wrap would get you a 50/50 response I think. I personally would dig it cause it is different. But at the same time, not sure I would personally do it, if that makes sense...

So, how does the 3M wrap compare to say MACarbons interior CF wrapping? I'd be SO down to do that with the 3M wrap if it's a good quality (which it looks to be from your pics). On that note, how much wrap did you get?
