My ROW Airbox + AFE drop in review

Hey guys.

Yesterday I went ahead and installed my ROW boxes and some AFE Pro S Dry filters.

Install is very easy and straight forward, took me under 1hr taking my time and cleaning everything inside out as I go.

IS IT WORTH IT??
Yes! I can feel a small increase after the 5k rpm range for power. I would say maybe 10WHP. The car pulls alot harder than I ever felt before. Engine also seems to growl a little bit more pronounced, but that may be in my head.

But when I went ahead to remove my stock filters I found 1 airbox was a ROW and 1 was stock! WTF lol... Weird....

This is what came out of the car

So ya. Short review, but yes this is a worthwhile mod I think. You can feel the power increase. The car seems to breath better up top. No check engine lights or anything. Works like factory.

Also was surprised at the quality of the AFE filter. I was going to get Weistec but the AFE was $50 cheaper. And wow it is a excellent quality filter. Very recommended. This should last the life of the car if you clean it often.

Here is the AFE Dry filters

Yeah other members mentioned having one ROW and one US on their cars.
As for the increased power could simply be in your head. I agree on the exhaust sound though.
Do you have any other mods like LTH or else? Combined with LTH or blower this mod will contribute to additional power.

The car pulls harder than I ever remember. I gave a ride to my friend he said it also feels a bit faster.

Either way Im happy with this mod. All that matters

I also mentioned way back, I also had one ROW air box in my 2010. They must of run out of parts at the time and just used what they had. I am almost 99% sure AFE is just K&N but just not colored orange.

Nice job.

Its also not oiled. Those are the ProDry filters. I'll never use an oil rinsed air filter on my M156 ever again. <3 my aFe's

Glad you like it! I love mine, both my stock airboxes were the restrictive ones.

Great writeup, I love the AFE filters. I'm not sure if I'm the only one who has done this, but I took my stock boxes and removed the restrictive black tube myself, leaving essentially an opening similar to the ROW boxes. It's a free way to get the same effect as ROW boxes.

The black tube is part of the mass air flow sensor. The tube straightens out the air flow before it hits the hot wire sensor. Without the tube the maf will be inaccurate.

Good point, I hadn't noticed decreased performance with this setup, rather the contrary. However, it is better to err on the side of caution

Put it on a dyno and check the before and after power. Also check the air fuel ratio while on the dyno at wot and at cruise. If it all looks ok and you do pick up power then you have a great free mod.

I will also do this install soon, not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know how often you need to clean the filters and how do you clean them? Can dealerships do that or can I do it myself? How often do you have to replace the filters?

You should clean the filters yourself. If cared for carefully the filters should last the life of the car. Cleaning intervals and methods are covered in the FAQs. http://afepower.com/faq.php

Did you use stock or new mass air flow sensors?
