First Speeding Ticket

Good Sunday to you all,

After a lame evening at work where instruments didn't work and the repairs needed parts I didn't have plus a project that I couldn't finish due to other issues, I got my first ticket in about 35 years! I was driving home on the 5fwy in South Orange County and came up to a group of cars going really slow (about 60 maybe) so I slowed down and this car cut right in front of me for some unknown reason. I switched lanes to the far right as my off ramp was just ahead and downshifted to get away from this issue. Problem was I was doing over 90 until I realized how fast I was going and then scrubbed speed. Too late, got pulled over. Ticket says 85 in a 65 which is "good" considering that the off ramp is 55 and the CHP officer even commented that I was close to 100! So no mods for me as this machine is deceptively fast as is. Traffic school, here I come.

I've never had a ticket in my life until I got my C63...

Then last week I got one for 20 over, and last night after my headers I got a warning about noise and another ticket for 20 over (even though I was going downhill, which im sure you can't get a ticket for)...

These cars are a cop magnet... A fancy luxury sedan that is loud and fast... That ticks just about every box in a spiteful cop's book.

It's very easy to lose track of your speed when you're on a very steep incline, especially when you're the only car on the road.

He also refused to show me my speed, so he never actually clocked it.

I'd say you're doing good if it's your first in 35 yrs.
I went about 15 yrs between tickets then got one near my house ...going with the flow of traffic and I got snagged, the. About 5yrs later another one 20 over on the highway (didn't realize the speed limit had dropped).

Now I've got a radar detector that I pay close attention to....but hey, this is why we have lawyers and drivers safety courses (which the safety course can save you 5-10% on insurance )

Lol, if he didnt use radar, you can go to court for that and fight it Im sure. If it was me, I wouldnt have signed that ticket cause he didnt actually have proof of how fast you were going..

It's called a 'speedometer'
It's used for keeping 'track' of your speed
Lol

If that was the case you could drive down a mountain at 150 mph with impunity

Don't know about Canada but in the US all they need is the cops estimate
No timing, pacing, radar, etc
Only his estimate, they are trained to do this
As ruled by the OH state supreme court
Same applies in many other states

In some states if you refuse to sign they can detain you and take you to a magistrate
Signing is not an admission of guilt, only that you recieved the ticket

I don't constantly watch my speedo, especially after a long day. I just speed match other cars.

I don't constantly watch my speedo either, but I know that the fact that I now routinely blast past the dummies that are out there doing God knows what puts me at risk for a ticket. And cops especially watch downhill spots for that very reason - it's so easy to just go blasting fast on those spots.

I have a bad habit of continuously monitoring my speed, mirrors, signage and the road ahead
If I had to apportion a percentage 3%, 7%, 3%, 87% in intervals of 5 seconds and based on conditions...in time per minute, 2 sec, 4 sec, 2 sec, 52 sec
Doing so helps me concentrate on driving rather than internal noise
using cruise control changes ratios

I'll argue my actual horizontal (X axis) speed was
Cos (Arctan (% road grade/100) ) x measured speed
Then I will kindly ask him to stop tasing me bro!

OP that sucks!!! I usually check my surroundings before doing any over the limit speed to minimize the chance of getting caught. But yeah it is difficult to always be alert.

Yeah good luck with that 'round here!

It'll escalate promptly from a minor infraction and a "promise to appear" to free ride in his cruiser. In the back seat. With handcuffs....all the way downtown. :)

I keep with the flow of traffic. A SUV, today, woman Driver was creeping along in the left lane. I was trapped behind her for a while. My driving lights must have caught her eye. She scooted over, I gave it a little throttle and went past. She got in behind me and sat on my bumper, She had her phone to her ear. Not the first time this kind, of thing has happened. Some don't like little black cars , I guess. No telling what she said to Hwy Patrol or whoever. I've got to where I don't drive the car much. I use to pick times when traffic was predictably light. Now the roads are packed and the Interstate a parking lot, most days, all day.
