AMG Standard Wheel Variations???

Could someone please explain to me the variations on the standard 5 spoke AMG wheel? I know they come in 18 an 19 inch sizes. But some have the solid spokes where others have a space between the spokes, essentially making them a 10 spoke wheel. Most that I have seen, including the ones on my car have just 5 spokes.

Here's a link to the 5 spoke variation that has the space in between instead of the solid painted surface:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...18-wheels.html

What I'd like to know is the years each wheel was used, or could you get one of the other as an option?

Sure thing. The 18" 5-spoke "solid" wheels were available at launch and were available until the end of both standard coupe and standard sedan production.

My '13 C63 sedan came standard with the 18" 5-spoke solid wheels:

The 18" 5-spoke "split" wheels (the wheels that you posted) were an option on the LCI/facelift sedans and coupes starting in 2012. This option was available until the end of both standard coupe and standard sedan production.

The 507 Edition wheels available in North America (and elsewhere) are 19" wheels.

Prior to the 507, there was also an optional 19" "multispoke" wheel. I believe that this wheel was never made available in the U.S. but I could be wrong.

Great information, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you. So what is the consensus, is the split spoke wheel better? Is it lighter? I do like the way it looks, but it really isn't that much different than the standard wheel.

Glad I could help! You're welcome.

The "split" spoke wheel shows off the brake hardware a bit better but the 5-spoke "solid" wheel is a bit stronger. It's a very meaty and solid wheel.

I like the solid ones, they kind of look old skool like some of the '80's 5 spokers
I like their grey color also, looks subdued, hides brake dust and looks great with silver
But nothing really better between them, just preference

+1

5-spoke "solid" wheels are an AMG specialty; there's some heritage there. I think every AMG sold has a 5-spoke wheel option available, whether they are solid, split, Y, etc.

Wasn't the multispoke the standard wheel on performance pack cars?

I am biased but definitely think the black 507 wheels are the best OEM wheel for the C63 (and I've yet to see an after market wheel I prefer to them).

In Australia, ALL FL cars (from mid 2011 when the FL came out) all came with the split spoke as standard.

What a great forum, thanks to everyone for educating me. I also like the 507 wheel the best, but I'll be darn if I pay that much for a set of wheels. I'm just too cheap.

Not in the U.S. (not 100% sure but 95%). I see you're in Australia.

I believe I read on the PL that the multispokes weren't offered in the U.S. because of the drastic variation in road surface quality.

The 19' multispokes were offered in Canada on my 13' coupe. They also came in black or silver, although the blacks weren't always available. I definitely recommend getting the multispokes if you can though, really suites the car. But in the end it is down to personal preference.
