Handheld Tuner Question

I'm just about to go for a Eurocharged tune but I can't decide if it's beneficial or not to opt for the handheld unit.

The only reason I want it is to flash the car to stock for dealer stuff and when I ditch the car eventually but I also hear that the dealer/MB is unlikely to find it so what's the point...I suppose. Although, I'm sure they'll definitely feel the tune and I feel like I'm tempting fate. Whatever, pay to play and all that.

Anyway, my real question is, once I flash to stock and get rid of the car someday, does the handheld unit have any value at all or is it junk afterwards?
I can imagine it would be if the tune is locked to my VIN, and who the hell would want to buy a blank tuner if I erased it.

I would get the handheld. Periodically they will update the tune and its nice to just get the file emailed to you. Also, if you upgrade more later (eg-headers) you can easily retune. You can also switch between race gas and 93 octane tunes. Its definitely worth it IMO

get the handheld...that way you could flash to stock for dealer visits if wanted, get free updates for later mods, or get updated eurocharged software.

Handheld and tune are both vin locked, and would require a fee to be unlocked by the mfg.

You wont ever regret having it, but you may regret not....
And who told you the dealer prob wont detect the tune? That person is WRONG!

FYI about dealerships. They can absolutely detect if you have a tune or not. So, if you have a MB warranty you can just flash it back to stock.

If you have an aftermarket warranty there is no need to flash car back to stock. The MB dealership will not care if your car has a tune because aftermarket warranty will pay for repair -> as MB has no vested interest. The warranty company will have no proof of a tune to deny claim.

A recent member on this forum has a tune and his head bolt failed. He did not change car back to stock after head bolt failure. The aftermarket warranty claim was paid on such a major job costing thousands. No need to flash back in forth, again if you have an aftermarket warranty.

Thanks everyone. I've ordered the handheld.

Are you guy's happy with the 'genetic flash' for your Tune-only cars or do you tend to get it customised afterwards?

I am not near EC and haven't been near any of their visited areas yet so I am running the file emailed to me. So far I am happy as can be with it. I would love to see what a custom tune would do, but I cant imagine it would be all that noticeable over my current tune.
