Too early for winter tires? NNJ

Got a flat tire last night (rear passenger side). Can't be fixed. I'm currently on my spare now.

I'm trying to not buy another pair of PSS's for the rears just yet as I was planning on getting new wheels next year (different size), so I'm thinking I can just throw on my winters a little early this year? Any safety issues or would it just run down my tread a lot faster? I do a lot of highway driving.

I wouldnt put winter tires on until the temps are below 45F for the majority of the time. Otherwise the rubber is too soft and will wear quickly.

yeah was thinking the same. i just didn't want to buy new tires to use for about a month and the hassle of trying to sell it next year.

I had new dunlop winter sports mounted today (rears only.. have to come back tomorrow to put the fronts on).

During the day it's still mid 60's here but hitting low 50's at night. If it's only treadwear to worry about and it's not drastic, I think i'll be okay. But i'm hoping not to be cutting the tread life in half. Thoughts?

Just get a used tire to get your by until thanksgiving-ish. I just ordered snow tires and will probably mount them when I get back from vegas in early December.

Upstate NY btw.

I you drive on winter tires for a month of somewhat "warm" weather, it really wont be a big deal. The tires wont wear much at all. It's not like they wear 50x faster in warm weather...

+1 No big deal at all, just go easy on the throttle, there's no point buying extra tires if you're gonna throw them first thing next summer.

I'd get winter tires no need to wait. How many perfect sunny days are left for those summer performance tires? Chances are the winter tires will wear slower than PSS even at fall temps.

I swap to winter tires around mid-late november. I'm located in Boston.

PS this year's winter is going to be a harsh one yet again.
