Price of rear brakes

Good morning guys,

Few questions. During a routine service my local dealer informed me that I need rear brakes. The price for rotors and pads plus install is around $1,100 (dealer price). This seems excessive to me, what has been your experience? Second, do I really need to have the rotors replaced? Third, Can I just purchase the parts and take them to a local mechanic? This is not something that requires great knowledge or skills, correct?

It is a 2010 C63 with 48K miles. Car was purchased used last year and do not know if previous owner has had the rotors replaced already.

Thank you for your help.

Sound about right to me. I was quoted $2200 for all four rotors and pads on a non-development package. I think the Black Series runs about $8000 pads and rotors. I'm sure the 507/P30/P31 brakes are somewhere in between.

As for if you need the rotors replaced, that's up to you. As I understand it, not replacing the rotors will result in faster pad wear, longer stopping time and possible vibrations under braking. (If they warped enough, I'm assuming they could rub while driving, really wearing the pads).

Highly advise not to go to dealer for brakes. Check out StopTech. I have them on my car, paid $500 for front and rear pads/rotors and they have tons of life left at 40k miles on them.

oem parts online are $600 delivered, maybe 550
Pads, rotors, sensor
Labor about an hour per side
It is a straight forward job

Rear rotors at 48k miles sounds too soon
Mic them

Yep. I don't have a C63, I drive a 135i but I would wager my brakes are nearly the same size as yours as I do have a BBK. StopTech makes great stuff at a huge discount over OE.

Yeah, not a 135i. Also depends on whether or not you have the development package or not. I had a 135 myself, I loved how inexpensive things were for that car. Non-pp should be about that price though...

OP - an indy shop should be able to do it for less.

StopTech makes amazing brakes. We did a BBK kit from them on an E92 M3... Reasonable cost, amazing power.

Thank you for your help.
Racingbrake offers two piece rear rotors with an integrated iron sleeve insert to retain the use of the factory ebrake.
Our rotors cost around the same price are your dealer quoted you only ours are two piece and brake pads are also included.

Once its time to replace your rotors in the far future, you can purchase our replacment rotor rings at a fraction of the cost.
Saving you some cash in the long run while still using a lighter two piece rotor.
