Why are they changing the Mercedes-Benz name...?

"Mercedes C63 AMG" now... They are eliminating the word "Benz".
They are creating some sort of sneaky transition. Anyone know whats going on higher up in corporate?
As we've seen with the introduction of the Mercedes-AMG GT sports car, a sub-brand was also created for AMG-tuned products. For example, the new AMG version of the C-Class has been named from Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG to Mercedes-AMG C 63.
The nameplates will be flipped on the back of the cars now.
I think I read it somewhere when they showed off the GT and new C63 to media.

So no we know if it's the car or the suv, and what size it is instantly. It might be more confusing for all of us because we are used to the names, but again makes more sense.
The CL, was always just an S class coupe, so S class sedan and S class coupe makes sense.
In the long run, I think it's wiser, only time will tell.

Mercedes-Benz: regular MB car
Mercedes-AMG: performance variation
Mercedes-Maybach: ultra luxury variation
It's easier for new comers to distinguish the line ups as well. As for AMG c63 I think it's only in some European country thingy.

It is now definitely more straight forward and consistent compared with the past nomenclature, I too as above still have difficulty trying to figure out some of the older model designations.
And rage2 has nailed it with the AMG name being brought forward and more into the picture as there will now be an AMG sport line of variants for new Merc models so as to directly compete (and profit) with the BMW M line and Audi sport lines which they have on most of their model range.
