MCT Transmission Service Fluid & Filter question

Has anyone here had the MCT transmission service done? Has anyone tried this as a DIY job? If so could you share your experience?

I'm coming up on 39k miles and would like to have it done. Is an Indy capable of this or should I take to the dealer? What's a fair price either way. Thanks for taking the time to look at my post!

It's the same as the 7G, there is a diy in the c300 forum I think.

It's pretty straight forward. You need new bolts, gasket, filter, fill tube and fluid, about 9 liters. Also will need a hand held pump to pump the fluid back into the tranny from the drain bolt hole. You need to find a bard with the same threads as the tranny pan for your pump or get someone to hold the hose while another guy pumps, this way is messy as hell.

if it's the same as the 7G i'd just pay the dealer. These were things in my 09 that I remember being not that expensive, trans and rear diff service. I want to say less than $500 for both?

Dealer wants $500 just for transmission service. If it is indeed the same or very similar to the 7G tranny then the normal price is like $300 in which I would just pay dealer because parts alone are $150+++. Thanks so much for the input, I might attempt or just bring it to an indy shop!

Got a quote of like $700 for transmission and diff fluid change. I feel like that's quite a bit. This is on an SL63, not a C63, but I'm fairly certain things are the same (as later model C63 with MCT).

Benz dealer rate here is $165/hr LOL, **** rape to the max.

A good Indy is around 110$ I think.

Believe it or not, I called 3 Benz dealers and 5 or 6 indys; one indy is a good amount cheaper, one is like $20 cheaper, and the other ones are more expensive than the dealer. The only last question I have about this is supposedly the MCT doesn't have a torque converter so does that basically mean you skip that step?

It has a wet starter clutch instead. If it had a torque converter like the older 7G, it would be an automatic!

Yeah so no torque converter but once you pull the pan off on this guy is that pretty much the job? Is there another drain area for the "wet starter clutch." I know on the 7G you have to drain the torque converter I think I might attempt this myself I just want to know if I have to drain anything else. Once the pan is opened up.

No one drains the TC, it's a hard bolt to hit. The service doesn't call for it either.

Just drain the tranny that is all. Make sure you get the fluid up to temp when you check the level. That procedure is kind of a pain. And find a good hand pump to put the fluid in.

I just did the tranny and the diff flush little over two moth ago.
ECS Tuning provides both service kits for a good price with oem parts.

The diff a walk in the park just drain and refill.

The tranny is a little more complicated.
I would suggest you to get your hands on the mercedes WIS software. (Ebay)
It has the service work instruction and explains the whole procedure step by step.
What helped me was that I measures the amount of fluid which I extracted in a measuring bucket. That way I knew the min amout which needs to go back into the tranny. I added half a liter and got the tanny up to temp and drained the excess.
A adapter which connects the hand pump to the drain with a shut off valve would be very helpful and keeps it clean.

Btw I drained the TC it is a must IMO. It holds quite an amount of fluid.
If I'm not mistaking it was about two liters which I extracted from the TC.
The bolt is easy to get to if the turn the crank shaft.
Use a ratchet with a 2" extension and a 27mm socket and access the crankshaft from underneath the car.

Please excuse my gramma.

Thanks so much! I figured the diff was easy, not worth paying the dealer $300 for! Anyway thanks for the heads up, I'll look for the WIS!

I think it's the same OEM one that goes in the 7G (or Titan or whatever OEM replacement). This MCT is basically the 7G- a torque converter.
