Need some thoughts here guys. So I've been really torn over what to do with/to my hood. I need to get my temps down, and aside from some rad shroud mods I'm working on, the next logical place to look is getting hot air out from under the hood. Was considering the MHP 180 tstat and phenolic spacers, but from what I've read they both seem to malfunction frequently. Will also dump some Redline Waterwetter in the coolant come spring.

The options out there now are rather limited from what I can see for facelift cars. What I REALLY want is Dad's Louvered Hood (https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...ered-hood.html), however Keith has moved on and it seems like there are none left on the secondary market or through Suncoast. Also, I don't know if this was ever made for the facelift '12+ cars?

I do not want the 507/BS hood style with the built-in vents. I know I can get those anywhere, but I'm not convinced they will help much, plus I want to do something a little more unique. I also do not want the "GT-style" vented hoods that Seibon and others sell (China). Just not the look I want.

I would prefer carbon, but it's really not critical. So it seems that I'm left with these options:

1) Cut my existing hood up and get a bodyshop to weld in louvers and the vents towards the windshield. This way is the least expensive, however I will lose my OEM hood when/if I sell the car down the road.

2) Purchase a carbon hood from Seibon or Stone Carbon, and cut it up for louvers. I don't mind cutting up a new carbon hood, but I have no idea how to determine quality of the weave etc from these online sellers and eBay. Also, if I'm going carbon, I want FULL carbon and not just a veneer over FRP. It's hard to tell from descriptions online if the hoods are full carbon or just a layer on top, especially on Chinese sites like AliExpress etc. I'd rather just cut up the stock hood if that's my only option.

3) Find a Dad's Louvered Hood (anyone?)

4) ????

Any other options out there? And does anyone know a great bodyshop in the NYC area that can be trusted not to screw this up if I do cut?

Send DADC63 a pm and ask him if he still can make it as he comes back from time to time.
Or get a 507/BS hood. It is functionnal and cool down the engine bay as opposed to the normal hood. I can confirm that.
Based on members comments and the design the vented hood from Dad seems to be more efficient.

Dad' s hoods are all made over seas and the freight cost is like 1200. Several places tried talking me out of the hood due to quality and freight and if you have any problems you are screwed. I bought a seibon carbon fiber with vents and looks and fits perfect. I have a oe hood with slight hail damage that iam going to sell. Hood would easy to repair

Going a little off-topic, but if your goal is to really drop temperatures down, then for the $ you'd spend on a new CF hood, you can put into the "new" cooling package for the facelift C63 and get a better result.

A few have already tried it, and from wobble's post "It is 1,695 + tax list price at dealer, ca 1,300 plus shipping online at oediscountparts.com."
That's just about roughly comparable for new CF hoods I've found.

If you don't like the 507/BS or the seibon, the only other design I've ever seen for the FL is this one, but it's very(too-much?) aggressive, and with no reply from the OP, i'd be hesitant.

$1300 for the cooling package? I thought it was in the 5-6K range just for parts.

Strange right? Also from the same thread, page 6, gives the part numbers:
A 204 880 06 00 panel
A 204 500 57 00 cooling system

And a quick search on OEDP is $682.50 & $558.75 respectively.

Again quoting Wobble, labor is around that $1,300-1,800, but that $2.5-3k mark isn't horribly off from what I've seen for new CF hoods...

BHimself - thanks for the info. I also thought it was more in the $5k range. If this is the case, I'll go get those parts today and install myself. Good looking out!

(I still want louvers though. Going to get a bodyshop to cut/weld some in.)

The 507 / BS hoods are factory designed to reduce ambient temps. All the other hoods with the exception of dads perhaps, are just cosmetic. Remember with vented hoods, you should look for one with a water tray. Or else your going to get some water on parts that doesn't necessarily like it.


Save yourself the headache and stick with the OEM BS hood. I will be doing an OEM BS hood on my PFL car. Its the best option for the C63.

Noted Kriston. You've convinced me. Not worth the hassle, and I like the BS/507 look in CF well enough. Thanks for the input.
