I wanted one before ... so I really looked into it... they all pretty much break ALOT. its a bad idea to own without warranty. ive got few friends who had it and its bad.
Gas prices have been dropping for awhile now and should stay lower for sometime to come due to the over production from OPEC competing with the shale fracking companies. The price drops should cover your travelling expense.
Keep the C63 if possible, you'll end up getting rid of the CLA if you go that route.
Why on earth would you want to trade down to a CLA? Especially a 250, which you would quickly hate after being used to a C63. Not only that, after having looked at one myself to see what all the hype was about, I quickly realized the car doesn't seem that well built to begin with. If gas mileage is that important to you or even a concern, why did you buy a C63 in the first place? I would have to agree with everyone else and say yes you're crazy to get a CLA.
Oh really?... Why not....
So you traded your C63 with mods?
Indeed! The C63 will be missed... So far i'm loving the 335is the torque is insane and the dual clutch is just amazing. I don't think i can drive anything else from now on.

The 335is has a sport button where it'll overboost and the car will make 370 lbs/tq. Even with my eurocharged v5 tune the c63 didn't pull this hard. I don't know if it was the slush box in the c63 or what

Well the N55 engine is known for being torquy and giving almost the same feeling as a big NA V8 on the low end side of the power band. You'll just miss that peak power and exhaust note
But hey if it suits your daily driving demands so be it ... we'll just see you in a couple years popping up in a W205 C63
I've had quite a few tuned BMWs (4 3ers and 2 7ers).
- 2007 E90 335i sedan (N54 motor) - Dinan Stage 2 Software + Dinan High Capacity Oil Cooler (384 hp, 421 lb-ft of torque)
- 2010 E90 M Sport 335i xDrive sedan (N54 motor) - Same Dinan Stage 2 setup as above
- 2013 F30 M Sport 335i sedan (N55 motor) - BMW M Performance Power Kit + BMW M Performance Exhaust + every other F30 M Performance Part
My first F30 was a lemon. The biggest problem was that the electric cooling fan failed 3 times. I could hear the fan go crazy, the steering wheel would start to vibrate/shudder, and I would suddenly lose all power (which was scary as hell on the interstate). BMW bought this car back.
- 2013 F30 M Sport 335i sedan (N55 motor) - Same exact setup as my first F30.
My first E90 335i was unquestionably the fastest. The N54 motor is an animal. It is also very receptive to tuning. The transmission was pretty decent too.
The F30 335i sedans had the ZF-sourced 8-speed "Sport Auto." Honestly, this transmission performed a bit better than the MCT in my current C63. It is unbelievably good. It is the same transmission used by the new Jaguar F Type.
OP, you are fortunate in that you elected to chose one of the few E92s that came with a true DCT (available only on the 335is models).
If you ever have any 335i-related questions, don't hesitate to ask. I have quite a bit of experience with these cars and, as evidenced above, I have tuned them extensively.
Except for the lemon, I truly enjoyed my tuned 3ers. However, there were a few issues that made me jump to the Dark Side (AMG). The main problem with the 335i platform (in my eyes) is that, irrespective of motor (i.e., N54 or N55), it just flat-out runs out of breath as the revs climb.
My tuned 3ers had gobs of torque, especially down low in the rev range. That said, the C63 feels just as strong except that the M156 in the C63 has a much wider powerband and pulls like a freight train all the way out to the redline.
The second issue (one that doesn't concern your purchase) for me was how soft the F30 platform had become. I mean, I chose the M Sport model (this was well before the F80 M3 was available) because I wanted something more aggressive but the F30 M Sport 335i felt floaty and skittish. It was extremely easy to upset the rear of the car on sweeping turns and on uneven pavement. The new electric steering had the potential to firm up nicely in S and S+ but it felt very artificial and regardless of mode, there just wasn't any real feedback.
As far as handling is concerned, it is no contest. The LCI C63 has a firmer, more dialed-in suspension. Compared to the F30, the C63's steering is infinitely better: better weight, more communicative, sharper turn-in.
Fortunately for you, your new car has a hydraulic rack. You are going to miss certain attributes of the C63, undoubtedly (the sound, the sedan's seats, etc.).
However, the E9X 335i is really one of the best "standard" (i.e., non-M, non-AMG, non-RS/Quattro) cars out there.

Ha! My wife had a V6 mustang and I kept trying to get her into an e9X M3 DCT. She likes american muscle so tried for a Boss 302. Instead we ended up with this fat chick called a Challenger. 4200 lbs of American lard. I hate that car...
OP, nice 335is! With some mods, it will be quick. My buddy has a 135i (N54) and I can beat him on his 12 psi setting but not 16 psi. And race gas and 18 psi...bye bye.
