DIY: DRL cover removal without removing bumper.

Contrary to popular belief the DRL surrounds can be removed without removing the bumper.

I wanted to replace the plasti dip with a carbon wrap so here's how I did it.

Firstly put painters tape around the drl cover to avoid scratching the paint on the bumper.

The surround itself has 4 clips along the top. You do not have to worry about the bottom clips as the surround will pop out one the top ones are released.

You will need a selection of trim removal tools ( I used the ones in the photo )

Starting by pushing in your trim removal tool and releasing the 2 upper centre clips. These release very easily.

Next you release the outermost upper clip. Pushing in your curved trim removal tool and pushing down the clip will release. You may need to use some force as this clip is well seated. The drl covers are very sturdy so don't be afraid.

Finally release the innermost upper clip. Again this clip requires a bit of force to release.

The surround will now pop out. I wouldn't class this DIY as difficult, just tricky.

Only phone photos at the moment. Oh and I wrapped the front splitter as well for a bit of continuity.

Naa, just you. Car is black. It's just the reflection.

I will get back to you with the wrap I used. It's not 3M but it's every bit as good and a third of the price.

I can't even express how much I like the way this looks. I can't wait to find some time to do this myself and I am loving the look of the wrap you used.

Let me know what it is exactly?

Thanks for the kind words. The wrap I used is KPMF Air Release. I bought mine here: http://www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/vwcarbonfibre.asp the first one on the list.

I hope that helps.
