decision time, c63 w204 or cla 45 shooting brake?
im deciding on getting this
http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/de...-1465861/?Cr=2
or the new cla45 shooting brake.
besides being the newer car, vs the cache of a c63, what are the arguments for either choice. im literally flipping a coin between the two.
my brother has a b8 rs4, and i had it for a week, and i really enjoyed the v8 and the practicality.
however, ive always owned turbo cars and i like the punchiness that the turbo serves up.
anyone with stories of build quality with the c63 please chime in. ive only really sat in them so i dont have long term experience with the cars.
my only experience with benz priducts was my fathers 2001 clk 320, which he bought new and in all honesty, it was a very bad ownership experience, soured me for many years

Honestly, for me this would be a tough decision. Brand new technology with the CLA versus V8 awesomeness of the C. My C63 has some build issues as far as squeaks and rattles go, as well as missing some basic amenities found in the higher MB classes (and other base model cars from other makers), but not sure if build quality would be substantially better in the CLA, since it is also entry level. Fuel consumption should be much better with the CLA. C is also larger in size. My reply isn't helping you at all, but I'd say both cars have their own pros and cons, and either car would be great.

I personally like the styling of the C63 wagon over the CLA. If you search on here you will see a ton of members who wish the C63 wagon was offered in the states, so you are lucky to have the option of being able to get one. Here is a previous thread/debate I found, maybe it will help some. https://mbworld.org/forums/cla45-amg...-cla-45-a.html

Even if the CLA was as quick as the C63 (it isn't)
Even if the CLA sounded as good as the C63 (it doesn't)
I'd still buy the C63 as, for me, driving the C63 tail out is way more fun.
Plus it's quicker and sounds better.
Not really a contest in my opinion. But everyone has different wants/needs.

I was fortunate to thump the A45s around Albert Park Grand Prix Track last month. Great little track weapon but down on sheer grunt - brake late for corner, great corner grip but no match for V8 pulling power everywhere else. I do think that the A45 could make an ordinary driver look good on a track with very little practice.
Would I buy an A45 of any sort rather than a W204 C63 - no way. The A45 is a very small car in comparisom. As a daily driver I would prefer a BMW 135/235 which although not really any bigger feel more spacious to me and the blown six is such a joy.
Buy an A45 for the wife or as an second car - would do.
You need to drive a C63 and any of the A45s (not the GLA) as they are a totally different experience. The shooting brake will be very similar to the A45 and CLA45 in driving.
Very happy with my late 2010 pre facelift C63. If you do go C63 a facelift model like the one in the ad will ensure you do not have the head stud issue that has arisen in some of the earlier cars.
Wait until the new C63 is out and the used prices on the W204 will liklely drop (concede that looking for a wagon gives you limited supply and the new wagon is some way off).
Buy from a MB dealer and get the additonal 2 year extended MB warranty. I bought mine used from a MB dealer and I shaved a substial amount off the intial asking price.
Want a rorty blat exhaust note then buy an A45. Want one of the best exhaust notes on earth then buy a C63. Many would buy a C63 for the exhaust note alone.

While I appreciate the AWD and actually wish C63 was AWD since I live where there is tons of snow...is it even a question? C63 all the way. I was contemplating switching mine to a CLA due to the AWD but quickly changed my mind luckily. I would have considered that a downgrade for myself.

The CLA45 is a great car. Ive been driving it since August. Its like a starter AMG. Its my little brothers car. Its his first car. In a couple years hell probably move up to the next AMG. Its basically training wheels for the AMG C63S lol

C63 definitely (grats OP), but CLA45 is still a very fun car. I got to drive it around the auto-x track, while it was pouring rain. It was a lot easier to drive than the C63 in similar conditions. And, of course, that much HP out of a 4-banger is ridiculous.
