Tire Woes.......
Starting to get pissed. I picked up a Certified 2014 C63 AMG with 5,500 miles a couple weeks ago. First time detailing the car I notice I have mis-matched rear tires. I have 3 Contisportrac 5p's and one rear is a contisportcontact 3. I call the dealer and they said since it was a certified car it shouldn't be like that and wanted me to bring it in. Then this morning I'm going out to breakfast I get 2 blocks from my house and notice my passenger front is FLAT! I limp it home jack it up and am expecting to see a nail in the tire and instead I see tons of dry-rot in the water grooves of the tire. I figured someone put and old tire on the car and when I check the date code it shows the tire was made the 2nd week of 2014. I then check my other front tire and see 30th week of 2012. Does Mercedes really mix match tire that are almost 2 years apart?

The car was in the showroom and in Flawless condition with 5k miles I guess the figured they could skip all the checks! Only part the stinks is they are 1.5 hours away from me. They told me I could bring it to my local dealer that's 10 minutes away and have the front dry rotted tire replaced under warranty and they would reimburse me to have the mismatched rear tire replaced. I'm going to see if My local dealer will replace the old 3012 date code tire because I don't think a tire made 2 years before the car should be on it............opinions?

Correct. So you paid for a CPO car but they essentially did not do a comprehensive overview.
Honestly, I would take it directly back to the place you purchased from, otherwise you will run into more problems with reimbursement.
Makes me wonder what else is wrong with your car. I would also take your car to a bodyshop to see if it was in an accident. GL

Agreed. Maybe ask for the CPO checklist. They gave me mine and the tires failed inspection. The first 4 that came in where from 2012. They put them on before they realized it and took them right back off once they saw the date. The salesman said the 2012's did not conform to CPO parameters. So two sets of tires had failed before they even let me test drive but of course the deal was done in my mind before that.

How will I run into problems with reimbursement? The Car is warrantied until 7/2019. The tire problem is definitely not something MB did and to be honest when I was a mechanic and if I had to check a car that was less than a year old with 5,000 miles the last thing I would be looking for is dry rotted tires **** happens.....I guess I'm used to it. As long as it gets taken care of I'm happy I guess. Only thing that irks me is that I'm going to have a new drivers side rear tire and a new passenger front.
Doesn't sound like something MB would to from factory....something done by the dealer or the previous owner...again, take it back to where you bought it they are responsible...

Will PM the CPO list tomorrow. Definitely should have been caught by the dealer. The CPO list has to be standard MB dealer protocol. I would call GM of dealer and discuss. I would not drive an hour and a half to a dealer to get it fixed on those tires. Not safe or within line of what MB would expect you to do. See that red button above your head? Press it.

I've had vehicles fail safety inspections due to tire 'dry rot'.
They were 3-4 yrs old with original tires that were exposed to full sunlight.
It killed me to replace $1,500 in rubber that was 20,000 miles from normal wear replacement.

I have seen it first hand many times here in the east coast but I don't understand how this tire has so much dry rot and is 15 months old. Outside of the tire looks as new as can be.

Half that.
Couple of reasons.
1) Lot of hp/torque being applied through a relative small contact patch.
2) Some serious camber at play there.
3) Its fun to crush it off the light!

Don't put to much stock into the MO stamp...as that's for any MB...a c250, b200 etc...doesn't mean anything...you can buy tires from any shop with the MO stamp...

Thanks I figured that out last night. My initial thoughts from a search where that MO tires where only available from Mercedes Dealers until I saw them on Tire Rack
