Dynoed my 2012 P31 - low numbers help
2012 c63 p31 AMG Development pkg (supposedly 481 chp)
Marietta, GA : elevation 1100ft
Temp 72 deg with moderate humitidy (rained later that day)
DYNO DYNAMICS dyno.
Car has 40,000 miles even. Was a lease car. Seems like it was pampered I just got it 2 weeks ago
Car put down only 363 on first run and after a bit of warming up 370 whp 325 ft-lb tq
Added Mike's power pipe and AFE DRY filters and removed charcoal filters.... ended up with 373 whp.
I didn't expect to add any real whp with filters/cat delete just mentioning it.
Most stock dyno I've seen are over 390 for a p31. My car did less than a regular C63.
Why so low? Any help appreciated

DYNOS ARE NOT FOR MEASURING HORSEPOWER
It's really not so hard to get this. Dynos are for tuning. Every single one is going to read differently - FACT. The only thing a dyno is good for is to evaluate the effect of changes to the car. Period.

A lot of factors first elevation of 1100 feet you can't compare one guys dyno to yours diff dyno diff elevation diff temps and humidity all play factors. The biggest is all dynos are not the same. You can go dyno at a dyno jet in your area and get completely diff numbers. The biggest thing is it's for mod comparison ok stock number is this. You added more gained 3 horse. Now tune you gained xxx horse that's what they are for. And remember these are hand built engines not all are created equal.
No
My 290 whp rated NSX put down 271 on the same dyno
Look at the drive train loss and compare the 2.

Dude. Unless you're pulling the engine and putting it on an engine dyno, you're not going to get accurate numbers. First of all, that hp from your NSX is not realistic. That right there should tell you that the dyno reads differently according to ambient conditions, testing conditions, gas, etc. Unless you have a magical NSX that has 6% drivetrain loss, or you believe you have a particularly strong one.
You're missing the entire point. Go run it at the track. 1/4 mile mph is a far more useful and accurate determinant of true hp than some guys dyno that could or could not be calibrated, maintained, or whatever. Like I said - dyno is only good for before/after testing of changes. The use of a dyno for anything else, like hp bragging numbers, is just foolish IMO.

And this is why the forum is down the drain ..lol...no offence to OP but you're expecting a "481HP" car to run over 400WHP???? Go smoke another one, Bro.
No tune, No mods, and crying about low HP? Is this what kind of society we live in?

My math might be off but isn't 373 whp around 445 at the crank? Car rated 481 at the crank so not sure what you're dissatisfied with. Plus it's a dyno.. Take it for a drive and see how she feels. Take her to a track and see some numbers there.

Look at the average
Most c63 AMG p31 are over 390. I'm not saying I should be over 400WHP
All I'm asking is does this not seem low for a 480 hp rated car? I have more than a 23% loss...... OK 20 if you say weather/elevation/ dyno is off.
You guys don't need to be *******s
I'm 38 years old and have been building and working with cars since I was 14. I know dyno numbers don't equate to anything except dyno numbers.
But when you have a GT-R that puts down 1200 hp don't tell me it means nothing.
There is a reason why we use these machines to measure the power output of these engines

Dynoed my 2012 P31 - low numbers help
I'm not shooting for 400+
I'm asking what you think could drop me 20 less than everyone's else's average.
Audi S5's are notorious for carbon buildup in the intake over 15k miles this ends up robbing power by 10-15%
Remove the manifold and clean it and you gain the power back. AUDI knows this and did put out a service recall for it.

You come on here asking retarded questions, and obsessing over stupid meaningless standalone dyno numbers, then you start calling people names. Real mature. That's a good way to have people take you seriously.

Dynoed my 2012 P31 - low numbers help
Why is my car less than average.
Is there something that could be causing a problem and robbing power to the wheels.
Look at the pictures I posted from Google of Multiple different dynos from all around the globe for a p31. All are different but still 20 whp more than my car
This tell me something could be weak at the motor

Everyone on here freaks out and panics when they are running 10hp less then joe blow ..its beyond me
anyways gzim335 have fun hanging around a bunch of materialistic retards ..I can tell from your instagram the kinda guy you are, thinks cause you hang around dudes with SLS's and lambos you're "right all the time" ...Lets get real, you street race like a dumb **** on city roads, I hope one day someone related too you gets smoked by someone street racing.
Enjoy the AMG, it's the only thing you'll ever accomplish in life.
P.S I'd watch your mouth, your Instagram has enough evidence of street racing and driving like a dumb **** to take away that little license of yours, it isn't hard to mass spam every politician in NYC with your videos. Kid.

I'm not in 100 degree Texas heat nor am at 20 below in Alaska. It was a perfect 70 degrees in Georgia which is not very high above sea level in comparison to Colorado.

every car is different unfortunately ..some guys run 430WHP stock (eurocharged days ive heard) then some guys run 350whp stock ..no one has a solid answer ..best you can do is get a dyno tune and see the gains after that.
who knows maybe the guy adjusted the read out or something

What can I expect with a tune. Will I break the 400 mark like what is touted by the tuners. Or is there some other issue holding me back ?
#21
i think i netted 50-60whp with a EC5 tune and around 60-70 with a custom but i have some other mods too..i dont see why you shouldn't push past 400 with a tune ..did you only dyno it once that day? i dyno'd my car twice on different days and the HP was about 20hp less ..one day was around 390 then around 413 i think

I'd like to see some consistency
If most cars are at 390, I'd expect close to the same not a 20 hp drop. If I see 418 avg with a tune... I expect close to that. I'm not saying I want 418, 415, or 420....
But I don't want to see 402

good for you, not every car runs the same WHP right off the lot, so youre saying a car mid texas heat is going to put down the same numbers of a c63 in alaska mid winter? ok

I have not dyno'ed a car in a while not since my SC E36 M3. here is what I remember. Taking all the differences in atmospheric conditions, elevation and variation in cars ASIDE. We are left with different types of dynos. You will definitely need to take this into account.
DYNOJETS are dream makers because they normally read the highest. Mustang Dynos and Dyno Dynamics are heart breakes because they read low compared to DynoJets. This you can google.
As such if you want to be on the upper half of the C63 dyno numbers. Go and try a Dynojet.
Yet another reason to only use a dyno to evaluate the effectiveness of a mod instead of actual car horsepower.
