New Owner- already in the shop!

Hi All,

Last week I purchased a 2010 C63 with 36k miles on it. I had it for 2 days before the engine bogged down on me with a blinking CEL. The car misfired on 2 cylinders and is running on 6.

It is in the shop now but I have no experience with what causes this and what the repair and cost might be...

for the 2 days I drove it though- wow what a car!

Can anyone shed some light on this? The shop cant get to it for a few days

Unless you pulled the codes, or it exhibited any other symptoms (smoke, loss of coolant, noise, etc), it's really anyone's guess. You might have gotten lucky with cracked coil packs, which sometimes do this.

Do you have a warranty?

Let us know how it turns out. Good luck.

Thanks- code was a misfire on 2 cylinders- that's all I got. No warranty but the dealership may cover most because ive barely had it.

No other symptoms- everything else checks out besides the loss of power and CEL. Hopefully its simple

I would get it in writing that they will cover whatever the problem is. Especially since you don't have a warranty. I hope everything works out well for you but this sounds like it could be a heartbreak. Also welcome !

They called me and said the car is good to go. They couldn't find anything wrong. code said it misfired on all 8. Their guess is the car sat on a lot too long with no gas..does this sound right? I asked another local shop and they said that happens more than you think.

I would recommend researching which is the best indy shop in your area and going there from now on.

Most decent used car dealerships offer 30days/1000 mile warranty to ensure there isn't anything wrong with the vehicle. I'd have it checked by an independent shop just to be sure.

Welcome to the group! I hope you enjoy the car!

sounds too easy-a-fix for something like that. i wouldnt rely on what the dealer said especially if you dont have warranty. these cars are awesome but they can break your wallet when something goes wrong.

i would do what these guys are suggesting. go to a RELIABLE indy that specializes with mercs/amg then tell them the story from the get go. i wouldnt even tell them the dealer fixed it. goodluck and welcome! hope it all ends well for you mate!

Have them make an electronic note on the repair order of the specific codes and their resolution (which was nothing). That way you have a paper trail to go back with if the same concern occurs again within a reasonable amount of time.

Welcome to the group! Yeah definitely get a second opinion. It sounds like your dealer knowingly screwed you. I would bet money the car had symptoms of these issues when the car was brought in, then resold to you. Probably why the car was sold in the first place. Your dealer is garbage...and no 30-day warranty to boot? Garbage.

On a better note, I'm sure it can be fixed and you will be fine in the long run! Rock on!

Half my post never displayed ahh
Misfire on all cylinders wouldn't be from sitting with no gas... Especially if you drive it a bit fine and then the misfires appeared... Mileage? Did you fill it up just prior to the misfires with fuel ?

i would highly recommend a third party warranty, it will pay for itself with 1 repair trust me.

I took it to a highly rated indy shop that specializes in benz/ amg and other German cars. They also cannot find anything wrong with the car. It is running great now.

This happened right after I filled itup for the first time. I guess we will see if something happens again.

Who would you all recommend looking at for a third party warranty? Just curious.

On the other side of all of this, best car I have ever owned!

I am always curious to hear people are having aftermarket warranties and 'it pays'. Do those insurances not know what they are doing/have poor statistics data? Why do they offer insurance at a loss for them?

in sure the data shows that the overwhelming majority do not make a claim.
but one decent repair and you have paid for the warranty itself.
i had a loose belt which ate threw some wiring and it meant rewiring , new ecu , new belts and alternator....lets just say the warranty MORE than covered what i paid.

Will the average person likely have a huge repair? probably not....but given headbolt problems , blown seals, etc its good peace of mind.

Also very few companies cover AMG's now the two i mentioned are the two i know of outside of MB ELW
