Widening C63 Rear Fenders...

Winter is just around the corner and I'll be storing my C63 very soon. The winter time is where I usually go nuts in mods and I'm strongly thinking of widening my rear fenders on my Coupe.

I've done my fair share of research on the forum and the only thread where I saw some progress is here:

Why not real rear fender flares, thoughts?

Although the thread focused around the Sedan and the complexity of still having a functional/opening rear door, I'm thinking the coupe should be much easier.

Anybody know a vendor which has been successful in producing some OEM looking fender flares to widen the rear? What happened to the revozsport fender flares?

No prob. I've been thinking the same thing. These guys appear to be closest to completion.

I'll be dedicated in having this done by next summer. I can't stand that the coupe's rear looks so weak. Just need some good quality fender flares...

It upsets me that MB decides to leave the same weak rear quarters as the regular C Class. Couldn't they make the AMG models have something in between the C Class and the Black Series!

I spoke to many overseas manufacturers and local US FRP/Aero parts makers.
Many of the overseas makers said they would do it but they need dimensions and a 3D scan if possible... something I don't have.

The US based company said they can scratch build using the OEM shape but this will take time, completion 2017?

Anyways, I hope someone decides to make it happen sooner or later. It's the last missing link.

There are many kits already out there. This is just not a big enough market for more to enter.

Plenty of choices, just requires a good bodyshop to do it. Unless you want a bolt-on solution, then you go for the BS rear fenders.

You know, I actually wouldn't even be opposed to the riveted look that shops like Liberty Walk are pulling off on some of their cars. Done right, I think it looks sick.

YES!

Liberty Walk fenders are rad.

Give it some more time, Miura-san from Rocket Bunny is always busting out cool fenders for older/forgotten cars. RWB Style craze in the US.

Since he made the wide body kit for the W203 CLK, next up W204 perhaps...

Nice! The more I look at the flares LW did on their M3, the more I think that's the route I'm going to go. I mean, just LOOK at it. I wonder how hard it would be for a good bodyshop to make something like this work on the C63.... Would totally transform/update the car.

The HMS kit i got from Germany look to ge good but the bodyshop im using is taking for ever to get my car in the shop.
If my cars don't get fixed in the next week or so i might just pull the plug and sell the kit with wheels.

Anything is possible.

Maybe we can set up an interest or group buy for Liberty Walk.

While these flares look cool from the outside, the fender liners wont work / misc plastic parts wont fit back etc.

If im not mistaken the HMS flares come with BS fender liners. But all these other companies your SOL.

Ontop of that most of these are fiber glass, not the ideal material but if your looking for a quick fix it may be worth it.

Personally for me I'd like to stay far away from fiberglass. Im guessing the good stuff would be made using polyurethane?

The price of the black series kit is too expensive to justify doing a full conversion, might as well just sell the car and buy an actual black series.

I'm totally in for the group buy if LB decides to make a kit for the C63. Although I've seen some cars local with the kit and it looks horribly done, you just need to make sure you bring it to the right shop.

So still on the hunt for a proper alternative!

All this wide body talk... it's making me crazy!
Still don't know why we never got the wider fenders... those *******s were holding out on us for their BS!
Just look for a very reputable shop... And be very careful about the shop you choose.
Though most of SoCal enthusiast were amazed by the work LTMW have been doing, there was an incident that brought everyone to wonder how things can go south, even for bigger and more reputable shops. Make sure the shop, not only makes it look nice, but also does quality work!

Unless Kato-san can get his hands on a C63 Locally, it's doubtful he'll ever make anything for the W204 Chassis.

I think the best options we have are:

PRIOR Design (FRP)
OEM Black Series (Metal?)
Replica Black Series from China (FRP)
HMS (FRP)

Personally, the PRIOR Design Kit, is essentially an OEM Black Series Replica of higher quality than the China one, so I think that's the best one. I've seen some Prior Design Widebodies locally in Hong Kong, and htey've all told me it fit actually quite well with minimal work required to make it fit perfectly.

HMS seems to be very pricy, not to mention very difficult and takes very long to get too from what I've read.

NOTHING is better then OEM.

Do the OEM BS rear, everything else is just a compromise. FYI My fenders are widened 1.5 inches each side already and the extra gap drove me crazy between the fender liner and the widened fender. So much to the degree I had carbon fender liner inserts made to block off the Gap. Everything you touch on a car, there's something else that needs to be adjusted to compensate. If its not as clean as OEM then It has no place on our cars IMHO.

LTMW - Great example of how to make things look pretty on the outside and hacked up on the inside. that GT3 made me cry

Doing solely the rear conversion from the black series will make everything else look weird IMO. If you do the conversion, might as well do it right and do the entire thing.

Might look better then you think, after all the front fenders on the C63 are already widened compared to the stock w204's

Did you pull the metal with added material? or just pull the metal with heat?

Also only doing BS OEM rear will look goofy, you need the full kit.
Only because you would then also need the sides that mate with the rear fenders then you would need to modify the widened front fenders for the sides, making the front end look weak. Either its the full kit or bust.

Breakdown:

Prior Design (OE BS style) - FRP

BS OEM - Urethane

BS Replica eBay/China - FRP

Misha Design - FRP (OE BS style) - FRP

HMS fenders only - FRP

Renntech - FRP/Carbon

Wald Black Bison front fender replacement and rear pieces but no increase in width - FRP

There's also D2/Expression Version I Fenders - FRP

D2 Version II - FRP

ZG Flares - FRP (Needs alot of work to make right, sharp taper looks weird and fenders need to be bigger, after all that's been corrected it looks like HMS anyway)

My panels were pulled and widened. I didn't want to get too invasive with the procedure knowing the associated panels that needed re-adjustment as well. Either way its a sublte upgrade, but I can run much more aggressive setups now.

if i had long term plans on keeping the car I would do just the rear black series OEM parts. at cost they weren't too bad and my buddy owns an autobody shop. The front is wide enough where I think you could pull of just the rear BS parts.
