One of my favourites...
The good:
The bad:
The good:
- Very repeatable
- No variation between cars/days/tyres
- You don't get dirty strapping it down
- There is never any damage to the suspension/exhaust etc from chains/straps
- You get to see what the suspension does under load
- It is easily portable
- Can purchase as 2WD & add more pods later
- Very quiet - no roller whine
- Very safe to use
The bad:
- Until you get used to it, attaching to the vehicle can take a little longer. Once you are experienced, there is little difference - it usually takes ~5 minutes total.
- The software is not as good as Mainline/DynoLog
- The company is small - based in New Zealand ... but good people. Has had some struggles at times
- Support is not great
- Short cars with long doors can be tricky

yeah, hub dynos are fairly common in australia, not as common as the roller dynos, but they were around at least 15 years ago, i remember seeing a r34 nur being hooked up to one back in the day
one thing to note, the hub dynos dont play well with the audi r8 s-tronic gearbox. there is a conflict with the software (of the audi) and it wont change up gears to get a run happening

that is interesting. sounds catastrophic if a tuner didn't know and ended up strapping an r8 up to it..

How is unsprung weight accounted for in the results--e.g., wheel mass?

no, what happens is the car will keep downshifting back to 2 and wont go higher, so it pulls back the revs. it was a weird sensation, but it wouldnt shift up and stay at that gear. there was no issues with damage
