Bumper got hit.....Options?
Hey everyone,
So my bumper got quite a love tap the other day (came back to find it hit, sucks).
The bumper was actually pushed in, like a big dent, but amazingly next day (heat of the sun), popped out. So I am left with minor scuffing/scratches.
Its not horrible to look at, but like many in here, I know its there and when I look at it, it bothers me.
Body shop said they can repair it for like $500 but it won't be perfect. Only perfect way would be by buying a new bumper and painting.
This gets me to wondering, are there any other bumper designs that I can consider?
I have a 2012 Sedan.

Amazing that it popped out by itself. Definitely not worth it to spend $500 just to repair it. Plus removing the bumper and all that hardwares might introduce additional squeaks and creaks and big gaps if not fitted right. Moreover, you might have a lady pushing a shopping cart into your bumper the following day. Not worth it at all. Don't sweat it.

And the damage after it popped out. (It looks a little cleaner now after I clayed/polished/waxed it as best as I could, but relatively the same) Diffuser has a small white scuff on it too.

It sucks when people damage your vehicle and don't even have the decency to own up and apologize.
I wouldn't be able to leave it like that. I would get a new bumper, or see if the panel shop could body fill the dent and respray.

Depending on what the deductible is, maybe you can go through insurance? My car was hit from behind few days ago and the damage is no where near that but I will be getting it fixed because I have OCD.

Deductible is $1,000, cost to repair is $1,400 with a new bumper.
Not worth having a hit on my insurance/carfax in my opinion for $400 difference.
Would the BS style bumper fit directly? Might get me on the road to converting....

The OE BS rear bumper would bolt up technically, but it flares out on the sides to meet the extended fenders, so it wouldn't meet with your existing rear quarters. There are some BS replicas out there on eBay that would bolt up?
EDIT: something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2008-2011-Me...VV8by2&vxp=mtr

Find the facelift one and post it up - I got tired of scrolling. Although I like the idea (somewhat GTR-ish) I think this PFL one looks too square to my eyes.

Just beware when buying any replica part, that the part is always the cheapest part of the job. The amount of time fitting, trimming, sanding, painting etc. will far outweigh the cost of that bumper at my shops.
Even my HMS fenders, which are about as good as it gets in terms of finish, took a lot of work to get perfect. Primer -> guidecoat -> sand -> more primer -> final guide coat -> base coat -> and on and on.... not to mentioned the trimming and reforming to make them fit.
If it were me, I'd have a body shop fill it with filler, perfectly smooth it with guide coat, and repaint the entire thing if the cost was reasonable. Remember though, there's probably damage inside that you can't see either.
Most shops that are willing to can perfect that without a doubt. At $500, I just don't think there's much room for them to spend the labor hours to do it. I think a fair price for them to perfect that is roughly $700 to $800.

I have an OEM bumper just for you . Check my sig!
too bad I already sanded it as it was saphir grey and I intended to paint it white and install it on my 09 sedan. It comes with difuser as well. Pm me if you are interested.

nothing you can do about the dent but have it fixed or replaced. but i would try meguiars scratch x remover on the paint damage first before i do something else. you might be happy with the result and could save you money. goodluck mate!

You can fix that unless you want to get a new rear bumper.
A good shop should be able to make it look like new based on what I see in the pictures. Just make sure they repaint the entire bumper which they most likely will.

Thanks for all the info guys. I am going to try beejAMG suggestions about scratch remover, because if I can make it look 80% good without significant money, I would rather do that as I've been itching to get an LSD for the car.
Unfortunately if I decide to repair the bumper, the LSD gets put on hold again.
Appreciate everyone's input and I will update what happens!
ABcut it was Sapphire Grey!!?!??!?! PM heading your way.
Does anyone know if the PFL and FL bumpers are the same? Somehow I'm betting they arent....

Replied.
I have a facelift bumper. Planned on putting it on the pfl sedan but got lazy and sold the car. But I test fitted it ok.

that popped out really well. that being said, i'd fix it. it doesn't need to be replaced.
color match (should) remain the same. why? because the area to be repaired is directly in the rear, so there is no need to apply color to the left and right corners of the bumper adjacent to the quarter panels. but keep in mind, that bumper is probably off a shade or two anyway, as most bumpers come this way from factory. (fun fact, but for some OCD people, sorry)
any questions regarding repairs, pm me. misconception on body/paint urks me.
