Poll: Stripe - stay or go?

So I bought my car and it had this stripe. MB has used it in a few other places, but to us C63 owners its a 507 stripe. My car is NOT a 507, its a P31. For that reason, and just never having really been keen on it, my intention from moment one was to yank it off. Except I cant believe how many people look at my car and point at the stripe and comment on how good it looks. And now its starting to grow on me.

So I seek your opinion. Should it stay or should it go? Ive set up a poll for votes.

At 1st I was going to say get rid of it, but it looks really good on your white car. Other than us, 99% of the people out there don't know the difference between our cars and a regular C class. For example, a co-worker asked me why I made my car sound like that....its stock.

If the thought of looking like a 507 wannabe continues to nag at you, you could always take it off and put on a non-507 style stripe. I think the stripe breaks up the whiteness of the car.

Get rid of it. If you want to break up the white get carbon side skirts IMO.

I like it, keep it! It's tasteful and not tacky or too over the top.

Keep it. looks rather nice.
like someone pointed out, most people do not know the difference between a C300 and a C63. couple of days ago, i was at a gas station in some remote part of WA, a red C300 owner walked up to me and said, hey, we have the same car!
Wasn't expecting that so just said 'yeah'

You could always go buy the hood, wheels, etc. and make it look more like a 507. Then some elitist forum member will see it, take a picture, and post it to complain.

Hey now, nothing wrong with getting the hood...it looks sexy as sh*t. If I could justify spending 3k+ on a hood, I would get it right now. I think you could add every single thing from a 507, hood / wheels / shifter / door panels etc...as long as it doesn't have the badging or stripes... I would be OK with it.

I would agree with that. Its within its own weight class, so to speak.
I don't agree with C300s trying to have all the C63 goodies, even without the badging. Different weight class. Not sure how I feel about a C63 putting on all the Black Series goodies, cos thats a different division sort of, but its closer.

BUT

I also notice you put the phrase:

and that's what concerns me. The stripe doesn't say '507' anywhere but it does sort of represent....just trying to decide how much that representation is in my mind vs the mind of others. And if I even like the damn thing lol

FYI, AMG has used a similar stripe on many vehicles other than just the C63 507. There is a similar stripe on the new C63 Edition 1, The CLA45 and GLA45 Edition 1 had a similar rocker stripe. The GLE Coupe also has one. I believe there is also a similar rocker strip that will be an option on the new AMG GT-R.

Ok, I gotta work on my sarcastic posts.

I have no problem with the stripes. If someone wants to put the hood on, etc. because they like it, I think it is great. I wasn't saying not to do that.

I am taking a shot at the small number of forum members who seem to obsess over cars not being the "real deal" because the owner puts on a badge from a different model. I agree it is pretty dumb to add a C63 badge to a C300, but I don't see the need to post pictures so I can point and laugh at them.

I bought my C63 because it has the sweetest V8 I've ever heard and the general ownership is a supportive community of gear heads. Not because I wanted to join some elite club.

I understood what you were saying. That being said I personally hate it when I see an AMG badge on a non-AMG vehicle, that is very tacky IMO. This non descript stripe is not tacky and I do not consider it being "poser" or "fake" or any attempt at the owner trying to make his car look like something it is not. Now if he threw a Black Series badge on it that would be tacky. The one that makes me laugh the most is when I see a 6.3 fender badge paired up with a E55 badge on the trunk lol.

There are plenty of ways to differentiate your car without appropriating something that is very specific to a specific sub-model. You could make a unique stripe that looks much better than that - honestly I think the 507 stripe is just 'meh'.

+1 I agree with you guys. I do not hate the stripe or consider it poser (though my brain does go "507?" when I see it), but there are other ways to stand out.

And black out all that chrome trim. I noticed that the prior owner only did the upper window trims but skipped the lower?

No its 'chrome' all the way around. Its just the way the picture looks. Going to black that out.
Going to change the tint. Its not as dark as it looks, and has that front light tint, back limo tint look. Going to go 50% all the way around. Also going to black out the bar on the trunk, the running light surrounds, and some of the grill leaving maybe the star, maybe the star and cross bar. H&Rs go on next week. Not sure about rims yet. May go anywhere on the silver to black spectrum.

Just sort of going one step at a time, as mentioned in my roof thread.

If you like it, keep it.
As for the front grill, consider blacking out the grill surrounds only (like a 507s )... personal pref I guess.

been debating on putting one also, cause I just had my car wrapped....original color is black, now I have the matte charcoal, I think it needs some color accent, not black but a different shade of grey, kinda like stealth, but you can still see it.

Definitely stay. 507 Stripe is what is most known for but run on many MB-AMG cars. Not poser at all!

Putting a vinyl livery can be considered "tacky" or "ricey". But from a design aesthetic the stripe breaks up the plain and empty space on the doors. Right between the sculpted side skirts and chiseled fenders/body line.

A perfect example is Domes car. Without the stripes it would look very bland and the contrast on white is so perfect. Like the rug that tied the room together

Anyone know what the stripe kit cost from the dealer, and does it have a part number?
