Awesome thanks for the info guys. I'm getting a groaning sound when i turn the wheel. First thing i read was to check the fluid.

Turn the wheel all the way to one side if it starts to hum or almost sound like its clicking you're low and need to top it off.

Don't know how old your car is but if you're at or beyond the five year mark you might consider changing the fluid at the same time. It'll be a 20 min job via the turkey baster method. The CHF 11S fluid predates the more modern fluid standards and a change is a cheap and easy way to provide a modicum of insurance against future issues.

Is it leaking?

There was a recall on a loose PS hose for 2009 and some 2010s.

That's a very good idea, thanks. Something I've completely overlooked.

Yeah, these older-standard fluids are generally "hydrotreated" mineral oils. They are markedly inferior (by today's modern synthetic fluid standards) in shear, oxidation and sludge resistance.

Its a 2009 with 98K Miles. Is there a DIY post on how to do the turkey baster method? I just got the car and looking to do some preventative maintenance.

Take a turkey baster and extract all the fluid you can into a paper soda cup. Save about 4-6 oz new fluid in a small container for future top-ups. Mark that fill point on the paper cup with a magic marker. Empty cup, then fill with new fluid to your marked level and pour into the reservoir. Cap it, then start the car and run it for 30 secs while turning the steering wheel side to side (but not to full-lock). Repeat until you've used up the new fluid but as you get to that last change do a visual on the dipstick so you know where you stand. Don't overfill past the top mark on the dipstick or it will leak out, guaranteed.

Good call. I'm at 09, so it's been 7+ Years already. Might as well give it a change, since it's not difficult nor expensive.
