Turn the wheel all the way to one side if it starts to hum or almost sound like its clicking you're low and need to top it off.

Don't know how old your car is but if you're at or beyond the five year mark you might consider changing the fluid at the same time. It'll be a 20 min job via the turkey baster method. The CHF 11S fluid predates the more modern fluid standards and a change is a cheap and easy way to provide a modicum of insurance against future issues.

Take a turkey baster and extract all the fluid you can into a paper soda cup. Save about 4-6 oz new fluid in a small container for future top-ups. Mark that fill point on the paper cup with a magic marker. Empty cup, then fill with new fluid to your marked level and pour into the reservoir. Cap it, then start the car and run it for 30 secs while turning the steering wheel side to side (but not to full-lock). Repeat until you've used up the new fluid but as you get to that last change do a visual on the dipstick so you know where you stand. Don't overfill past the top mark on the dipstick or it will leak out, guaranteed.
