Not happy with cat delete w/ x-pipe
Hey guys,
I just did a secondary cat delete and had a Eurocharged x-pipe put in, and I'm not too happy with the new sound.
It's got a hollow tone to it now under part throttle that reminds me too much of the stock VQ exhaust in my old 350Z.
Any thoughts on keeping the increased sound volume, but lowering the tone to a more "muscle car" like sound?
I'm debating a resonator delete (replace with straight pipes), but I'm afraid that will drive the sound in the wrong direction, and most YouTube videos I've found aren't giving me a great representation.
Thoughts/help?

Might want to try this, put the cat back and do the powerpipe resonator delete either with the h pipe which is a little quieter or the straight pipes for a little more bark

Understood, but they also go through the parts in the thread and describe what they do. The video's themselves won't help, but there is some relative information that will. Also you can find the C63 variant on some videos, if you look them up.

There's a decent thread in the FAQ sticky

Do what he said. Straights sound much better than x-pipe. Mike's Power "H" Pipe is what you want...

I replaced my secondary cats/resonators with straight pipe + an h-pipe. Sounds very similar to stock just louder.
I think that will give you the sound you're looking for:

Secondary Cats replaced by ___________
Resonator replaced by ___________
This also removes the X where the resonators are which slightly changes the sound harmonics (not amplitude) as well.

Are there any straight pipes and h pipe you guys recommend? Are they just bolt on or is cutting and welding required? Looking for a similar setup but want something that just bolts on if possible. I really want just headers but cant justify paying and arm and a leg for them.

Anyone have a sound clip of secondary cats replaced with straight pipes? or h-pipes?
I'm finding YouTube searches do not come up with any good examples of this specific setup.

Can you clarify which is where? It believe it makes a large difference if the H is closer or further from the engine.

However that video is not of my car so I'm not 100% sure they did the same as me. It does sound very similar to mine though.

I just replaced the secondary cats with straight pipe and kept resonator and it sounds pretty good. Pops more and louder at WOT and no drone whatsoever. In fact the cold start is same as stock I am pretty sure.
I wish I had replaced the resonator with the straight pipe too as I think it would sounded perfect then.

one of the best sounding setups is the following
Remove your secondary cats
Remove your resonators
Replace secondary cats and resonators with an H-pipe
Keep your primary cats
This setup is great for cruising as there is NO drone and the cabin is extremely quiet. And when you want to smash on it, you get to hear the roar only then, so best of both worlds. Also, i love the snap, crackle and pop of the back fires as you come down the revs

Take out the X pipe, put in mikes power pipes (straights) you will get the AMG bark back.
Keep the stock resonator, it has an H already built into it.
I currently have LTH/X-Pipe, resonator delete, akrapovic slip on. I will eventually remove the X and replace with straights.

I had the resonators and secondary straight piped a few years back. Best choice. The X Pipes as others mentioned actually tones down the sound.
