Cost of a wrap
I wanted to get a good price point to shoot for. I am looking to wrap my car (Satin black? maybe the c63 is aggressive enough for the Brushed Black Aluminum???)
So what did you wrapped guys pay?
THANKS!!!!

are they? lol, I've emailed about 5 different wrap shops around me and they say it could take up to 24hrs for a quote so i was hoping to get a ballpark estimate here. But... 4k. Nah, I'm good if its that much. 2k okay, 2.5k alright... anything over that is just too much for it IMO (but I dont have much to spend on mods so that a big reason why).
Yep, 4k. Looks like it will be something I do further down the road. Or when I get my coupe.

Think about it. For that cost you could do new wheels, or headers, or many other things that are more likely to increase the enjoyment of your car. Silver looks great, IMO don't touch it.

Thanks! Yea, idk what else I would want to do to this car though. Headers are out of the question. This thing is already loud (almost too loud... almost). My only issue with silver is my last car was silver lol. I wanted to change it up. But like I said, I may just wait till I grab a coupe in a year or two (waiting for the wife to get a nursing job once shes outta school!)

I looked into this a while ago, don't have all the info handy but there's a significant range depending on the material, brand, style and finish of the film (3M, Oracal, etc.), how much chrome is on your car, the shop you use, etc. General range is like $2,500 to $6,000-plus for an overall paint replacement wrap. You can go crazy and go with a carbon fiber wrap in matte or gloss, etc., and your material cost alone is like $20-plus a linear foot (depending on how much you buy etc.), but a basic matte wrap using 3M starts around $13 a linear foot. If you're serious, I'd start by researching the brand, style and finish of the film you're interested in, then checking in with local wrap shops and getting some estimates.

Not a fan of the brushed look on a wrap, in fact I think many of these wraps look like crap.
There are some good ones that are nice like a matte grey or something like that, but your silver color is pretty nice.
You can make your silver pop by blacking out the emblems and tinting the windows a bit. That will make that silver pop without going all rice on your car. But to each their own, and I would never tell anyone that my opinion is better than yours on your own car. Do what you want and what you think looks good to you.

I actually really like others inputs. I don't want to get something that I'm gonna realize down the road looks ricey/crap. Thanks for the opinion. I actually do have really tinted windows and the roof is wrapped black. I will look into blacking the emblems... is wrapping an option for those or would plastidip work... haven't used the stuff in ages so i cant even remember if it looked good or not.

if i may.....also ask how much...... to take it off......i have been putting vinyll on my cars for years and although i have never done a complete wrap i have done some pretty wild designs . the problem is taking it off , if you live in hot climate its worst . or if you keep it on for a few years it becomes hard to take off . shops will charge you quite a lot just to take it off.....been there done that got the dirty t shirt . now i do it myself but it takes time patience and a few cans of 3m vinyl tape remover and tools .

i was kind of in the same boat as you a few years ago. i had a silver car and bought a silver c63. got bored of the color really quickly and decided to wrap it. i wrapped it a matte grey and loved it ever since. i recently had to redo a few panels due to people dinging my doors and whatnot. luckily, the wrap saved my paint so all i had to do was remove the old vinyl and rewrap them. taking the vinyl off was not an issue at all. came off pretty easily. there was some adhesive residue, but not a lot at all and it was very easy to remove.
that all being said, my friend asked me to help him wrap his car. the wrap alone will cost $500-$600 and at least 2 full days of work which i have no pleasure in committing to. i've since heard of "liquid wraps". it's the same concept as plastidip, but a much higher quality product. do some research on raail and autoflex and some other comparable products. still pealable and will still protect the original paint underneath. we've found a company locally that will do it for $875 after some negotiating. that is the option i'd probably go with if i were you.

Wraps were cool years ago, I had my BMW wrapped almost 7 years ago. Was awesome back then. Now its like plasti-dip to me.
No issues wanting to change up the color, but take into consideration the following thins when you wrap your car.
Any NON Factory panels have a high chance of peeling the paint when you do remove the vinyl.
Shops use a special adhesive to tack the vinyl to hard areas. Depending on the installer, he or she may use too much and damage the paint. It literally is glue.
Vinyl looks great if executed properly. Based on your signature I see you have a Silver C63. Ever thought about using just a satin clear film on the original paint?
You guys should come to Toronto. A quality wrap is $2500 CAD, most of the time you can get it for $1500-2K depending on material / installer. With the USD / CAD exchange rate. That's 30% off those prices.

Looks very sharp, and the uniqueness means it may not go out of vogue quite like matt black paint, huge watches and spinner wheels.
Apologies to those with spinners

c63amg607 and Kriston have a very good point - the wrap is not permanent and needs to come off after about 3 years at the most or it will ruin the paint. I did this on one of the P-cars to mostly protect it from rock chips and tire chunk marks when tracking it. By the time you add the removal and presumably re-wrap costs into the equation, three wraps - so ten years at the most - end up costing more than a good quality paint job, which will last for 25+ years. It just didn't make sense financially to do it at retail prices, and there's always the possibility of paint damage especially if you leave the wrap on for too long, keep the car outside in the hot sun and/or the paint underneath is not original and/or already 'challenged'.

Is this the same for clear paint protection film too? I know plenty of cars that have film applied and none of them have heard of needing replacement every three years?
