Keeping her running cooler
Hey guys, this may seem like a strange question but I'm looking for mod's that one could do to keep the c63 running stronger / cooler in warmer climates. Not sure if it's common to change thromosates or add larger radiators. Always wondered about hood mods etc..

44O cooling kit
Radiator blockoff plate
Use SDS to enable "desert mode" (radiator fan runs longer and starts at lower temp)
180deg thermostat
Phenolic intake spacers
Hood vents and/or spacers
Enlarged bumper openings
Redline Waterwetter
Do a search and you'll find threads on most of this stuff

Run it on E85! You'll drop about 30 degrees of oil temp. 20+ on track ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Thanks
Dave
Edit - FLEX Run it on FLEX, Switch back and forth as you wish from 93 to E85, Drop your temps AND pick up like 25-30whp in the process - booyah!

Thanks, BLKROKT and DavesMeanE's. You guys seem to get what i'm after. Always thought the 440 cooling kit was only to keep it from overheating. Goal i have is to keep it running a lower temp. Though i've never overheated or run in limp mode I can surely feel a power loss in the FL heat immensely. Its like night and day when its 70 degrees out versus high 80's or low 90's. Granted I know its not going to run the best at higher times just saying you can feel a huge difference in power over a lot of other cars i've own in FL.
Would love to run E85 but its not local in my area.
Radiator blockoff plate
- This never heard of it, looked it up and it looks perfect for what i'm trying to achieve. Did anyone make a kit or its just fab your own? Seems its not be kitted https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...r-cool-11.html
Use SDS to enable "desert mode" (radiator fan runs longer and starts at lower temp)
- This never heard of and will search.
180deg thermostat
- Wondering what needs to be done tune wise differently for this mod.
Phenolic intake spacers
- Ran them on other cars before wasn't sure how much it makes a difference on the c63's
Hood vents and/or spacers
- Always wondering if the BS hood vents actually make a difference or it was just most for looks.
Enlarged bumper openings
- Assuming this has been done before?

I really don't notice much diff in power between winter/summer.
Did you perhaps get a batch of bad fuel, causing knock, and pulling timing?
How many miles? what is the cond of the vehicle? you might consider a dyno session to make sure all is good.
I really don't notice a drop in power in summer vs winter..... I just notice an increase in traction in summer VS extreme winter... which I attributed to cold tires/road surface.

IF your car is running too hot.... major heat soak...... and causing the computer to pull timing.... then some of the above mods might help.
Are you noticing this when sitting in bumper to bumper traffic with AC ON.... just heat-soaking? then you hammer it?
Or do you notice this even while cruising at speed.... not acute heat-soak?
GL.

I don't see higher then 246 degrees for oil. Only way i can explain it is its a similar feeling when you would see multiple dyno runs and power goes down and you still not over heating. Just heat stroked with out limp mode / over heating. Makes sense to me.
Do like the idea of 180 thermostat (need to learn more regarding the tune). Love the blocker plate mod big time, would love for there to be a kit available since i don't have the abilities to cut something like that.

I got my 44O from Tracy at https://www.oediscountparts.com. There was a bit of a wait, but it was not unreasonable and in the US the price and service were both fantastic.

When I search the two part numbers, one comes up as optional cooling system, which makes sense. The other, however, comes up as a W204 grill panel...which doesn't make sense.

My biggest complain would be heat soak. I think partially are the exhaust heating up and transmit the heat into the cabin. I can feel it on my seat and i dont think i will need heated seats. Any one thought about wrapping the exhaust pipes specially the section under the car where the cabin is.
