Is this much engine ticking noise okay? Or do I have lifter/cam problems?
Video is here:
This is after driving and oil has been fully heated and circulated.
Been noticing this sound more recently. Don't know if it's because sound is getting louder or I'm just paying more attention to it. I drive the car every day. Just replaced motor oil with Mobil1 0w 40 and new oil filter.
Anyone have vids of how their engine sounds?
And if I indeed have lifter problems, how bad is it to just keep driving and ignore it?

That's just how they sound with 0W oil. If it bothers you, switch to a 5W.

Its not the sound itself that bothers me, its the uneasiness I feel because I associate the ticking with something bad. So you guys are saying that this sound is not that bad and its quite normal?

I'll take your question seriously. Your car is noisier than mine, even when I used M1 0W-40. There's an underlying prominent mechanical noise that I don't hear in mine, this being a noisy engine in general notwithstanding. That said, I've heard other M156's that I'd say have been noisier than mine and they certainly have seemed to be healthy, well cared for engines. My advice is to listen to some others side by side. There are quite a few knowledgable GTA'ers who post here, try to hook up with a few and do a comparison.
edit: The odds of anything being amiss re. perceived engine noise that hasn't been talked about here is minimal to (most-likely) non-existent. The remedies are known and not too expensive, relatively speaking. The suggestion to use 5W-40 is a good one. Do it. I use this oil in another car with excellent results. My local Walmart had it on the shelf this week @ $7 qt/btl...I thinks it's a great choice for this engine

Also I think this is the sound of the purge valve. If you place your fingers on it, you'll sense the same pumping. Totally fine and normal. Lifters and cams will sound different. You'll feel it's more of a knock. If it's squealing and not the pumping which is the only thing I hear, check your belt and pulleys.

Sounds normal. Also mine sounds better and better after driving it for close to a year, with Castrol 0W40 European .
We should just have a thread with videos taken from the same angle, where everyone good and perceived-to-be-bad would post and someone that has concerns could listen to a known to be good sound and understand where they are.

Thanks for the replies everyone. If anyone wants to post a vid of their engine, feel free to do so in this thread! Definitely looking to meet up with a GTA'er and listen to your engine, as weird as this sounds LOL

Stop freaking out, that sound is normal.
There is a reason why the hoop has sound damping material.
Keep the hood closed and don't worry about it.
You don't need to open the hood and drop another bolt or anything else into the engine bay.
Have you noticed a rumbling sound when getting off the gas yet?

What oil temp do you guys run at?
My car goes up into 110C+ almost every time I drive. Saw it as high as 118, and I wasnt even pushing it. Just sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. The radiator fan is almost always on these days. Changed oil, oil filters, and just did charcoal delete and installed K&N filters today and oil temp hasnt changed. This is okay?

Here's a super-short vid shot today panning from very close to normal standing distance which demonstrates how near to the engine you need to be to hear ticking. From 3-4' away it's quite quiet.

Mine is way more quiet than that with M1 euro 0W40. This is the first start after doing the HB as well.
