Help Please - Puffing smoke smells like gas.

I've had the car for a few months now. I'd noticed that when it was really hot outside on a rare occasion it would seem to idle rough for a second and then be fine.

Well, coming home it was over 100 degrees. I'd pulled off the freeway to grab some grub. I pulled out and while sitting at a light. The idle become really rough and it seemed like I dropped a cylinder. I limped it home ok on flat spots but if there was a little bit of a grade it really started to show.

Got it home and noticed that it was puffing smoke on the passenger side and that it smelled like fuel.

Here's what I've done:
  • Checked the plugs on the pass side and they're all fine.
  • Ordered new ROW tops with new MAFS
  • Ordered 2 new coil packs
  • Ordered a new MAP sensor

I'm hoping that one or all of these will fix the issue. If it's the head bolt issue. Well, guess I'll be taking the heads off and doing that.

Here's what my scanner shows. Thoughts?

Thank you for any help that might be offered.

The scary I would guess is the last.
I do not see this as a headbolt/headgasket issue.

I was thinking the same thing. I'll see if any of my new parts fix the issue.

I know. But, it's still German and I also connect that scanner to a 800hp VW Mk4 R32 as well.

What year is your car? There are about 5 revisions of injector the the M156 - The earlier ones can stick opened, and cause the issue you are having. Misfires and smoke from the exhaust.

'08-'11 sometimes later. You can check the "Q" number on the injector.

I was thinking injectors also, but try coil packs first since you already have them ordered.

MAP sensor reading wrong would cause all kinds of codes like this. Start with the cheapest and easiest, new MAP sensor, see what happens.

The misfires are a result of a mixture error don't pay attention to them. The MAF could be related to the MAP or maybe you have a bad intake leak.
